Just WHAT did DISPLAY mean? Hellbound Hayride

  1. On Saturday, 10/6 we attended the "Hellbound Hayride" in Allentown, Pa., at the Playdrome Rose Bowl. The car show was hosted by the "Ace's & Eights" car club. One of the 5 rules of their show was worded; (No feather dusters, leaning dolls, displays, over billet Easter Egg cars or trailer queens, no cry babies.....just
    HARD CORE HOTRODS!)
Upon arriving at the show, as we registered, I asked the entry Dude about decorating just the inside of our car. Well he very profuondly replied that this was not allowed here today, and that the show was just about the cars being on display. He did thank me for asking. I was pretty disappointed, as I am a Halloween freek, and thought by their car show ads it would be the shows theme. Even their postcards they gave out had a Frankenstein figure in a HotRod.
Not wanting to ruin our day....:( I set my disappointment aside and after all....It was the club's rules, and I wanted to abide by what they required.
Throughout the day as more and more cars arrived and the lot became full, we could not help but notice all the many vehicles that had decorations on their cars, inside their cars, or just plain outside their cars or just all over their space they were parked in.   I
was crushed. I guess I should have approached one of the club members and asked again just what the rule DISPLAY included? Again, not wanting to make some deal of it, I just thought I better let it go.
I also wondered about how the vendors felt that paid $50 and $75 for their spots, when there were quite a few car show participants that were selling items from their cars or on top of their cars. Maybe these several were relatives of club members?
Here are some shots of the DISPLAYS that were not applicable to Rule #5.

You should have gone back to the dude who told you NO displays and asked WTF? There's no such thing as "I thought I better let it go" if you know you are going to be pissed about it afterwards.

car shows and displays are gay.

drive your damn car and have fun. If i wanted to hang out at an event and not drive...i'd be into quilting or something.

This is common at alot of shows, except maybe Billetproof. I've been to shows where they say no open hoods, but certain guys are allowed to show off their engines. Other shows i've been to have year limits, but allow newer cars in the Vender area, and let cars park with the older cars because they have a vender p***. Pre 65 means pre 65! That should mean ANYWHERE inside the show! Venders should unload their stuff and park outside! If you want people to respect your show, you need to ENFORCE the rules...or don't have rules.

This pic was from Billet Proof. I hate those stupid stuffed time out dolls too, but if you're gonna shell out $30 for the privilege to show off your ride, you should be able to do what ever you want to it. It's your friggin car.

    Displays?

Man, I don't even know how to approach this...

I think it's great that people have fun setting up displays and doing their thing... I mean, it doesn't hurt me - so why should I care?

That all said, you'll never see any of that silly **** around my car.

    Example:
If a club is putting on an event that says Traditional Hotrods and Customs and states that it is limited to a certain date and older vehicles.
I don't want to hear no bitichin' if you don't fit the bill.
Nobody did "Displays" at outdoor shows back then and I wouldn't expect the people and vehicles I was lookin to attend to try such ****. Take all that **** home and decorate your house.

I agree ... I believe that most of the folks who do that " display stuff " are just trying to attract attention to their ride ... Because the ride itself will not draw any positive attention ;)

If your ride is cool enough ... or a big darn train wreck ( pick one :D ) folks will look.

Deuce, I agree... let the car speak for itself.. displays are for shows that judge by points, no other reason.

Maybe you misinterpreted "no crybabies" as the goofy doll type. Who cares. The displays look stupid anyways. They saved you from being the fool and adding to the goofiness.

So, instead of talking to the guys running the show about this "problem", you are *****ing about it here.

    I don't get it.

    sandybeaches,

The guys hit you pretty hard on the subject of displays. The guys are right let your ride speak for itself and save the displays for a Halloween party or indoor car show. The baddest taste ones are the ones who dress like hillbillies and fill there old rusty car with junk. Leave the display stuff at home and just have fun. The rules should be the same for everyone and enforced. Good Luck

While I think having a car with period accessories (say a 50s wagon with a 50 cooler in the back) or half naked chicks around it is cool at a car show, this stuff is pretty stupid looking if you ask me.

Take Goodwood in England. While I've never been there, from all the pictures I've seen they get the display part right. This stuff is just dumb looking.

People who put displays up are only trying to get attention for their car, because their car can not pull the attention on its own.

Build a *****in car and you wont need a display.

I dont consider an icechest in the back or a roofrack with stuff on it a display.. more like accy.. crybaby, show signs and other stuff like that are displays.

A ****box with a bunch of **** on it (you all have seen them) is nothing more then a shriner ratrod built by folks who just dont understand whats going on and/ or got tired of driving their magenta or teal colored 80's fashioned streetrod because it does not get any attention anymore
