Danny, great story, a lot of nice people out there. When we come over every trip from Aussie we always find helpful and honest people on our tour.

Thanks Danny, great story to start the day with. I've seen a photo of a restored Dirt Car with two Crown Royal bags over the Winfield carbs, looked cl***y to me. Bob

This is very good to hear in this day and age. To bad that there are not more kids like David, more people in general like David. Good for you kid!

I never implied that I was a primaDonna, I just avoided drugs, yeah I remember smelling the stuff but since I never smoked I didn't intend to use it,beer was my vice and those days were over years ago.

I went to Love Valley Festival in North Carolina back in 1970 driving my straight axle ,jack up '63 Falcon Sprint with a pal and two girls we met the day before

The long haired kid in the circle is me,the guy next to me on the right with the head band was my pal Dennis, sadly he died a few years later of a drug overdose.

    I hate drugs. HRP

Wrayman, some of us spent the free love years (60s, early 70s) in missile loaded sewer pipes roaming the seas. Just sayin.......

I was just relating how prevalent it was in my youth. I was 16 in 74 and the flower movement had hit its peak before I was driving. The war was over when I became eligible for the draft. There were definitely two camps but the tokers out numbered the anti's by a good margin in my world. Danny, good for you by not joining the crowd. However, if you went to an indoor concert in my neck of the woods you were smokin' intended or not. The smoke was so thick you were lucky to see the band.
Your picture made me think about friends that died from substance abuse, some indirectly. I stopped counting at eight. I miss them all.

Sorry about the left turn I made in your post, back to the good deed!

I was always the idiot saying "watch this".:rolleyes: I'd be willing to bet at some point I probably took birth control pills without knowing it. I don't know the hell I survived, I quit EVERYTHING in my late 20's, or I wouldn't have.
I have a few friends that didn't survive, although more from owing the wrong people drug money than ODing. One didn't even owe anyone money, but his room-mate did, he just happened to be there when they showed up to collect.
One friend died in his mid thirties, he started having convulsions as a consequence of his drinking habits, one night he smashed his head on his nightstand beside his bed and died. His dad had died at more or less the same age, in more or less the same way. Still think of you Roddy.:(

I teach in a K to 12 school, all boys by the way. Everyday I am reminded that the world is in good hands. With the pragmatic social activism of today we'll be fine. In my estimation the kids of today do a less stupid things like some of us may have done and get out and do more good stuff for others. I know that this morning roughly 5-6 students met at the school and then went down to the centre of our worst neighbourhood and handed out muffins that they made as well as coffee. There is no school credit for this at all. This program was started by a group of students about five years ago and just keeps chugging along. So keep you eyes open and you will see the promise of tomorrow. The problem might be when the youth get older and jaded like some of us.

Danny, are you sure you circled the right person?
That looks like some of the hippy girls I used to chase around. :)

The thread is about the younger ones being good and not about CR bags or smoking up, etc.
I was lucky that I found out early that I can be a complete idiot without booze or drugs. Ask my wife!

I love when you guys post these pics of yourselves.

I think most young people of today have good values, just like people from previous generations. The kid who brought your phone back was one for sure.

Every time I start thinking that the kids these days are a mess, (pants hanging down, douchecaps, Pokemon Go, or whatever) I just remember how my folks didn't get punk rock, then I remember "My Generation" by the Who, then greasers, beatniks, flappers, on and on. The generations naturally don't understand each other.

Of course there are and always were people who will steal from or injure others, they ****,
    that won't ever change.

What I find weird is when I'm sitting in my cl***room doing something or other, playing some Floyd, CCR, etc. and students come by who know the music, lyrics and album art. I tell them to go away and get their own music and then invite the, in to listen.

I spent a LOT of hours driving/cruising to The Eagles, Steve Perry & Journey, and Foreigner in the 70's and early 80's.....I had a 64' Corvette, Ray Ban sungl***es, and Centerline wheels....I just don't remember much of where I was most of the time!....fun times (I think) but.....I'll stick to my "slow" cruising hot rods and iced tea now!....and play The Eagles like I never heard them before!!!....I'll turn the player up and think "wow, these guys are really good!".....full circle, all over again!!!:)

I think most people are good at the core, just that some areas breed more anger and ambivalence a**** the population than others. Being from the Detroit 'burbs myself I too carry a measure of the "**** its", and in the cases I apply it to it's deserved. Maybe that's also why there's a measure of sadness that I see in this topic. The fact that 2 pages are running about an action that most of us would take for granted, that anything else wouldn't even occur to you/us. Like being surprised that a server remembered your order or did a good job. Surprised at a parts counter person that will dig deep within themselves and find that part for you. A degree of rare joy that a product didn't break or quit working in the 1st week you used it. Or something as simple as an agreement signed with a handshake instead of a pen. Don't get me wrong HRP, I feel your positive vibes as well and I'm truly glad you met with such a thing in daily life. I guess I simply long for the day when it's a matter of course, again.

What he said, I grew up in a world when such actions were the normal not the exception. I was raised to respect the flag, God and the American way of life. When I got my draft notice in 1970 the last thought in my mind was to protest or run off to Canada. As said before I think alot of the problems with todays youth started at home. Don't get the idea I am any kind of goody two-shoes, I am a redneck, pro gun, beer drinkin hotroder but my handshake is still my word but it seems that there are not too many of us left. OK, fell off my soap box, all this Crown Royal talk made me remember I got half a bottle still in the garage!
