i posted several serious questions about my car two days ago. In that post I mentioned I had a Heigts cross member.
A member wrote and in formed me I could not talk about “ after market parts” as there are guys who will delete the file because they are purists or something close to that.
Please tell me where this rule is stated or where you post mechanical question for help from members.
I have read over numerous questions and I am simply at a loss where mentions do after market, non stock equipment is taboo.
    Thanks for the help

  2. Probably should post this in the Questions and Suggestions section so a moderator will see it and respond.

See above. Also, MII front ends, EFI, LS swaps, mini-trucks, and a few other topics are not a part of the traditional vibe here. Aftermarket is not off-topic, off-topic is off-topic. Sometimes taste and topic are questionable, then the moderator moderates or doesnt. This is a good place, not a perfect place. Hang out, pay attention, and learn.

I have almost 43,000 posts, and I still have to dance around this subject....

but I don't pester others about their posts being off topic when they include MII stuff, I try to answer the question quietly, in a helpful way.

    Rules are here:
    https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-h-a-m-b-rules-guidelines.44274/

    Specific rule in question:

    5. As mentioned throughout these guidelines, the H.A.M.B. focuses on TRADITIONAL hot rods and customs. Posts pertaining to traditionally inspired, but not quite period perfect belong on the main forum found here. Please note that we don't focus on things such as modern fuel injected motors, big-inch wheels, frame clips, after market independent suspensions, etc... at all on the H.A.M.B.. As such, posts that stray away from the "traditional inspired" will be deleted.

Just don't mention it and you will be fine. Need a question answered specific to your IFS? Google or ask on a street rod forum.

Seriously- We appreciate everything you bring to the table. Your knowledge base is incredible.

And ,God Forbid, anyone around here would ever break
    rules LOL

  11. If you don't at least try to follow the rules then the forum would devolve into just another car forum discussing Mustangs, Camaros, rat rods and then on to politics. Avoiding those things are why the majority of us joined this forum. There are lots of those types of car forums out there, but there is only ONE HAMB that is exclusively devoted to traditional hot rodding and customizing.

If rules aren't broken and boundaries stretched , the organization stagnates , withers and dies..!

Sometimes the hard black line of 'the rules' is hidden in a mass of gradually darkening gray. The exact position of the line gets established (or re-established) when someone finally goes far enough over it. Some of us are the teenagers, some of us the parents.

As has already been said, try to keep photos, mention, or discussion of OT parts or pieces out of your posts and all will be OK. Just be like a former president of
    US: "Don't ask, don't tell"!:)

    That’s a cop out.

Why is it that these days some people that join an activity or group, no matter what it is or what it’s about, expect and ultimately demand the the group or organization conform to them rather than themselves conforming to the group or organization?

This is what kills an organization. It dilutes it’s purity, it’s focus before too long there is nothing remaining of that uniqueness that drew members in the first place.
A term for this is jumping the Shark!

Funny, hot rodding was all about breaking the rules now we are concerned about enforcing them. Damn hoodlums! Get yer streetrod off my lawn!

  20. Hang around long enough and make mistakes and eventually you will realize what floats and what doesn't, occasionally as stated previously there will be a thread that skirts the edge of something slightly off topic but it can quickly go off course and the thread will be closed.

Case in point, several years ago a gut was building a 1932 Ford roadster out of a VW, WHAT?

Yes sir and he had made a lot of interesting modifications and making a lot of fabrication was being taught in the process but several weeks into the project it was deleted, my people ,including myself, ask Ryan to reinstate the thread and he did.

It ran smoothly but the guy that was building it lost his workshop and sold the car before it was finished.

But we all know sub frames, mustang II suspensions, huge wheels and s-10 frame swaps will get a post deleted in a hearty beat. You say you have seen them in the past? yeah that was before the Boss decided he was going to seriously enforce the rules

Today you will see some old threads relating to some of the off topic builds but you will also find they are locked. if by chance you find one that is not lock and bump it odds are it will be deleted, regardless of how old it is.

Having a thread deleted usually means you have pushed the boundaries, if that happens, don't whine about it just move on. HRP

It always surprises me how foreign the concept of Internet forums having a specific focus is to some people.

Sometimes people find a real good deal on a car that may have a part or component not kosher with HAMB rules and the questions they have are not involving the OT stuff, so simply avoid mentioning those components and you'll be OK as long as they also don't appear in any pics you post.

THATS NOT ALLOWED!!( Unless you don't talk about it and we don't see it ,)
    Too funny ..........

  24. Exactly, if your car has a mustang II front suspension but it doesn't show, don't mention it and your golden.

Heck, even the Boss's 38 has a mustang II front suspension but he doesn't talk about it. HRP

  25. Sometimes, a fellow "Jalopnik" who has a problem will ask for a bit of help to solve an issue or problem on his/her old car, and doesn't understand "the rules", and mistakenly posts a picture or asks the wrong question. BAM! No help coming. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. You aren't wanted around here. Otherwise, advice is profusely given to "hide" your real intent or parts of the picture of your engine compartment, and you will be OK.

Seems reasonable to me. "Just move on", as someone recently opined.

Glad I painted my car with Lacquer. It complies in that category, I think, maybe..............

Those that have painted their car with some sort of 2K paint have violated the rules, it seems. But don't tell anybody.

Never understood the injunction on the Mustang 2 front suspension. Sure it is after 1965 but what do you tell the guy whose 1937 Graham has a worn out front end?

Back in the day I bet hotrodders would have used anything and everything they wanted to on their car. I find it funny that such a hotrod place is so closed minded and stuck in the past. I still enjoy it here, but I do refrain from posting alot, because I mix old and new.

This place isn't really the original "spirit" of hotrodding, it's more or less the "renaissance festival" of re-creating hotrodding as it was.

I'm cool with that, I still enjoy it. I know folks that are into recreating medieval, civil war, ww2, and other time periods. Just don't show up in Nike sneakers ;-)

If people had let other people tell them to always follow the rules , there'd be no hot rodders ....ever , seems a bit hypocritical .?
