Got the f1 trans mount today, I have an f1 crossmember I'll be using in the build.. Anyway what do I have wrong here? The holes are off, & is there supposed to be biscuit style spacers between the trans and the mount?

  3. Don't the early mounts have narrower spacing?

  6. I'm pretty sure they do, I have three I am looking at right now. what I believe is a 1933, a open drive f1, and a later car. the later car and f1 are wider than the earlier one.

If you want to use that 35 tranny, you will need to change the rear bearing retainer (which is also the trans mount).
That saddle mount you bought for your F1 crossmember is the same used on 46-48 Ford cars. The rubber vibration dampener is molded to it so you don’t need biscuits on the ends.
Are you using a closed driveshaft? If so, the 46-48 trans mt will do the trick.

Just keep in mind that if you change your mind to go “open drive” later, the F-1 trans mt for open drive extends the length of the tranny by about ¾ inch (as shown in the pic) which changes the location of the crossmember also.

Rubber pads between that bracket and the body, no wood.

That's just old school back yard engineering! Everything back them was brazed...and had bailing wire on it...but yes, scary!

    Project looks great.

Today I cut my model a rear spring perches off of some spare bells, I picked them up at Turlock earlier this year for about 20 bucks. After seeing Chris's excellent roadster build I knew this was the route I wanted to go.

When you run the Model A spring and shock mounts on the rear, if you swap the brake backing plates from side to side and rotate them upside down, you won't have to hack them up to hook up the wheel cylinders. Just mount the wheel cylinders right side up and they will bleed out fine even though they are now located on the bottom. The emergency brake cables will come out on top and go forward...

Finally got my correct trans bearing retainer/mount. Got it bolted on and now I'm ready to rock.

  25. And that's a cool truck ya got too. Looks good with the wide whites and black rims!!

  26. Have you mounted the F1 crossmember yet? I'm guessing not by the pictures. I'm just kinda curious how you modified the crossmember to fit.

Im going to cut it so it fits inside the A rails.

  28. What are you going to do about the pedal mount? I think the pedals hit the frame if you just trim the ends and mount the pedal in the stock location. I haven't done it yet, but that's what my understanding. I'm planning on cutting the center saddle out and making it a bolt in to the rest of the crossmember.

Oh , now that you mention that, I can see what you mean. Haven't thought of it. But after just now mocking it up, I think ill just make new mounting holes
