Great job on the F1 Crossmember. Love how you rounded under the MC. Very nice!

great build so far, with the F1 crossmember install will the torque tube clear the stock center crossmember?

  7. That speedo is out of a dodge pilothouse truck from 48-53. Yours is in very good condition. Great progress too, I'm liking your setup!:D

  8. I think I can answer that with a big, NO.

  9. I'm getting ready to tackle the fitment of a F1 cross member to my A frame. I've been trying to envision how to section the damn thing. I *was* considering making mine a drop-out center. You've caused me reconsider.

Btw I bought Speedway biscuits for mounting my 8BA.... later, I've read several stories of them 'collapsing'. Sounds like the ones from Chassis Engineering are the way to go. Or I have Balkamp numbers if you wanna get 'em from NAPA.

Thanks for taking the time to post.

hey man, looks like its coming along..

here's how my crossmember is coming out, I still have to final weld it in and fab something up for the wishbone ball thing, but you get the idea. I dont think I would use an F1 again after all the trimming etc. Might as well just make one from scratch..

Nah, you have to trim the stock center model a crossmember..
You can kind of see where i marked mine, but I hadnt cut it at that point yet.

I had saw the beginning of the thread where you hauled the body back from Tim's then after that I never saw this again.. Until now. That picture of the truck with the roadster body in the back stuck in my head since that day because it's a great looking truck.

I DIG how this one is turning out. Really. You did a great job with that F1 crossmember..

Thank you! I'll never forget that day.. It was a blast bringing the roaster back home. At the time, I hadn't dialed in the carb on the truck yet, & man I barely made it home, That truck has never not gotten me home..even with blown head gasket, plugged carb etc..

The front biscuits that Bob Drake makes are better than the speedway ones. With that being said, I actually put Bob's rubber biscuits into speedway cups on my coupe. I also tried cutting into a rubber biscuit that Bob Drake makes and there is metal in there. It shouldn't collapse. I think I got the Drake biscuits through Macs or Snyders. Just ask them on the phone if they sell the Bob Drake ones. Or just order them from Drake! :D

You just described my C10. It's a '68 so it's too new for this site. I'm on my second motor, third transmission, and second rear axle and it still can't go too far out of town. I'll probably fix it up some after I finish my own A. I've affectionately named my truck "Murphy" like the law.

Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.

But let's not let this get out of hand. Back to your really awesome roadster build.. Did I mention I REALLY like how you did that F1 crossmember? :D

  21. The biscuit is 6021177, the other rubber thang (the bottom piece) is Balkamp 6021178. I reused my washers.

Nothin like a good ol truck, my dad had a
79 f150 with a camper and carpet in the bed. We'd take it camping every month. Never forget the musty smell of the shag carpet.
& thanks, I was really excited how it came out.

Thank you, I just looked them up..Whats the second piece for? I'm unclear on what consists of a biscuit style motor mount.

You formed that cross-member pretty damn good, fits like it is meant to be there. Funny how we are all going that route now days, damn good pedals.

I heard you may have met me before, per Ed, mentioned something about a Winfield class. I'm over there often, him and I need to come over and check out the car. Then I can put a face to the stories.

Any way, I'm subscribed, like to see how things work for ya.

Thank you very much for those F1 pics. That's one of the better installs I have seen.

    Keep it up.

  28. You're doing nice work there man!

Great find! '30-'31 roadsters are getting scarce. Nice work so far, too...
Like the guys say, cool looking in the bed of your truck!

Me an' my F100 are a little older, but had I only thought to take pics of all the roadster bodies I brought home in that '55 F100 (since getting it in '72, Santa Cruz)
Four '27 roadsters, one '27 Touring; four '28 & '29 Chevy frames; three pair of Deuce rails; five Model A frames; one '34 Five Window; two Model A Sport Coupes; three '27 'T' Coupes.
    There were more...

I also am crazy about the F-1 cross member, you made the lines flow sooo gracefully.
Equally proud of the way you tied it in.
That 'Merc' rear is actually a PRE- F1, Ford pickup '42-'47. Hang onto it, the open drive is highly sought after.
