Don't be like me and go to the Holiday Inn at I-94 and Sprinkle to register, where it always is, cause it ain't there this year! Due to construction on I-94 the Sprinkle Road ramps are closed both ways. The Holiday Inn at 131 and W. Main is the headquarters hotel, you'll have to go through downtown to go to the fairgrounds, again, because there's no exit or entry in either direction from 1-94 and Sprinkle. In defense of the NSRA their website does say where the hotel is, I just didn't pay attention. It's going to be slightly awkward for some, as there were cars at the Holiday Inn and the hotel that shares a parking lot, so I'm sure some had booked rooms there at what they thought the headquarters hotel was a year ago and are surprised the action is now 9 miles across town.
Thanks for the heads up. I was going up there Friday morning so Ill look for another direction. That's a hard town to get around if your not from there.
This hotel is super easy, coming from the south, north on 131 to the West Main exit, towards downtown on West Main, an immediate left onto Westgate, a service road, the hotel is 1/4 mile north. To get to the fairgrounds on Lake Street you'll have to either follow the detour signs through town, or easier, take West Main through downtown to Kings Highway, right, or east, and follow that to Lake street, left to the fairgrounds. It's not too hard. I felt pretty dumb, because my wife asked me when I left if I knew which hotel was the official one. Of course she did, and had I checked? No, I had not.
Thanks, Flynbrian, you just saved us a lot of time and frustration. Cumming from Indiana we would have gone all the way to Battle Creek just to turn around.
I read that the host hotel had changed location, and forgot. If I didn't have family commitments here this weekend, I would have probably headed straight for Sprinkle Road as well. At least you're there, and the weather forecast was good.
A LOT of people did just that. I heard from several folks this morning there will be a "gathering" at the Sprinkle and Cork motels, as there always has been. No one said anything about people hanging at the new host motel. I'm probably going back in this evening (I came home about 1:30, attendance was light this morning, I forgot to stash a lawn chair or any water or sodas in the car, and had an issue with the brakes dragging, wanted to assess that) and go back there. Hopefully the police will have a presence and stop the usual hooning with local kids in rusty Chevy pickups and idiots in new Dodges and Mustangs. Makes me glad I have the high class version of a Charger, a 300C, guilt by association you know...
Just got home, the hotels at Cork and Sprinkle are once again filled with locals in pickups, jeeps, imports, and idiots doing burnouts. Didn't hang out very long, didn't want to get any on me... Oh, and I was in error, you CAN exit I-94 at Sprinkle eastbound, but not westbound, and no westbound entry from Sprinkle.
