This weekend went off without a hitch. Good people, great cars. For those of you who don't know Kansas City Speed and Power is an annual reliability run that Ryan and some others organized a few years ago. The first two ruled, but for some reason the third year didn't work out and the whole idea was "back burnered" with plans to bring it back and make it a bit better. Well it's back and stripped down to fighting weight... pure. I think we came out swinging. So drop your photos and tell your stories here. I had a blast. Wish you could have been there Ryan.
Here are some shots from the KCSP yesterday....... I arrived at the City Market and Kevin had the guys park inside the market area. Everyone had breakfast at the mis-matched floor breakfast joint and then went out to start the tour........first issue was the "Tuck 34".......spark? yes.....hmmmmm? outta' gas? Yep........so he received so petro and off the guys went down the road. The first stop on the KCSP was.....you guessed it....a gas station....I took off down the road to get some shots of the guys driving by.....(oh yea, I was in the late model, errr)......then they stopped in Farley,MO and chatted with one of the locals......the guys did burn-outs as they left Farley (in the gravel) and I had to leave them to go chase some parts........ I did find a couple of cars a the junkyard and they were priced real good....and I saw a couple of old cars on the way back to the house. Chris Nelson Kansas Gman driving thru downtown KC on his way to the city market. "You have the same heads as me" The line up. It will not start. Ahh, gas....
What a great photo Kevin, looks like it could have been 1950. Looks like a fun time, for me the smaller the better when it comes to really having fun with cars. Nice to see an event like this. I'm sure it was a blast.
The long road. What in the heck is pulling into town? And I saw alot of these reactions from people in their yards and farmers in tractors stopping work in fields. Parked. Let's go boys.....follow me.. Burn out.
Cold? Can you beleive I am driving after two years? Jay had a smile everytime I saw him. Damn hotrodders.....
The drive home to get some parts.. How much? Five hundred bucks and she has 12k on the odometer. How much for the other old car? Five hundred bucks. "They belong to my son." F250. Four hundred and the frame and everything is over there on the trailer. How do I get out of this area? Directions from this guy. Greasy tacos and a cheap beer.
Cool........It must have went on for a while into the darkness......we saw gman on the way to dinner last night. Chris
Heck yes, went on into darkness and almost into the next day. Got home at about 11:30 last night! What a blast!!!!!!!
is this thing invite only?? i thought raven61 was tellin me bout this in a pm....sounds and looks like a good time!!
Ya shoulda stayed, the Mrs and I just sat on the couch and vibrated and grinned way into the night. I think the TV was on but we didn't notice. Ya made it home alright? that's cool I think the highlight of the day was when the kids ( sorry not good with names) top blew off. They ducked off the side of the road quick and I stood on the binders. There was some duck tailgateing me, I could see his face in the rear view. I'll bet he don't tailgate an old farm truck again. Actually I was just going to share this Ryan but what the hell. I don't recall where we were stopped at but Edye and I were by Kevin. He was danceing a little jig in the seat of the modified and saying how stoaked he was. A grown man standing up in his roadster danceing, its just one of those kinda days Thanks for the invite. BTW I finished toasting my plugs on the way home. The Pusher was a little sluggish all day. Right @ 20K on the plugs, I guess that's enough for the money. Edit dammit: Kevin, Mrs 'Beaner says very well thought out, here exact words are " Exellent Job !!!".
sodbuster. . . you think that guy'd sell parts off that 54 tudor c-dan? i also have kinda a serious jones for that other tudor sans frame, but mama'd kill me dead where i stand dunno bout the inline 8 tho,,,
Man, I wished I'd have known - I'd have loved to meet some local HAMBers in person. You all should go to the Hardware Cafe' in Liberty and go to Old Bill's Museum afterwards. I's a couple acres with nothin' but 1955 and before Ford stuff. Used to be the dude charged admission to look at a building that suspiciously resembeled a Cracker Barrel on the outside that was filled with old implements, etc. He closed that part down several years ago, and now just uses the shop on the property. Not sure if any of the stuff is for sale or not, but I don't see why it wouldn't be. Besides, who could turn down a bunch of cool guys like yourselves? ~Jason
Jason, Most of us aint hard to find. Just go to the goodguys show at the racetrack. The ones that aren't there? that's us.
Benno- I thought that looked like the ass end of your orange chevy. Looks like you guys had a damn good time in the chilly weather.
Yeah, I was wondering if this was an invite thing as well. I'd love to come - if my ride is down, I'll come and take/post a crapload of pictures & movies or somethin'. ~Jason
Yea the old hooptie sticks out like a sore thumb. Not the coolest ride there for sure but I own a jack. Actually the weather wasn't bad, a little chilly in the morning. Probably real chilly for hiboy32 he drove in from Nebraska in the wee hours and drove home late but around mid-day it was real pleasent.
It was so cool, all those great rods and their progenitors. Heard some great stories at Succotash breakfast joint, saw some truly amazing feats of engineering and talking to guys who'd put together their rods like they were back in the fifties, one guy showing me his header assembly "could've been like it should be but wanted it like a teenager might've done in the 50's" and it was , truly retro all the way through. Flatties, hemis, -- I'm so old I was thrown back into the 50's watching all this. Heck I had a 49 ford back when it was only 5 years old. I loved that this bunch was not like a staid old car club of some kind, you know, by the book, there were donuts and burners, little of this and that that would get you tickets way back when they laid for anything looked like these. Kevin -- magnifique. Got a few pix but will have to get 'em developed. A big thanks for the time warp. What a bunch of cool guys.
What a blast! meeting old friends and making new ones. Good food and perfect weather. Lessons learned: Tuck knows people, doesnt know gas. When in Weston stay away from strange ladies with candy, and street speeches. Kevin knows fun. couple of vids for ya, (can anyone youtube?) Rolling past the roadster http://www.hollywoodcrossspeedshop.com/MVI_2007.avi And some kinda weird shakin' the dust off behind a tractor dance http://www.hollywoodcrossspeedshop.com/MVI_2009.avi
It absolutely ruled! I started feeling like crap and had to bail a bit early. Totally bummed I was missing out on the way home. Didn't want to share my crud though. Blasting down the highway "slightly" over the speed limit, chasing Kevin was one of my high points. Kevin found some cool spots to hang throughout the day. And Tuck found a special someone while buying some fudge. Isn't that right, Eh? Darned Canadians!
