Projects Kansas title question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by BDRomstedt, Apr 26, 2016.

  1. Your comments and concerns are valid, and shared by others here, as well.
Doesn't matter what forum you may visit, you can hear of these horror stories, stories that were activated by buyers who chose not to check the obvious FIRST.
No matter what I purchase used, whether a daily driver or a classic, I ALWAYS ask to see the****le first, then verify that the numbers on the vehicle and the****le match 100%.
I do this FIRST, because I don't want to waste my time on something that will cause me azz aches, as stated, in this thread.
There is always another car out there, one with proper paperwork and no attached azz aches.

"I know getting a****le is no problem, I'm just not comfortable having KHP come do the VIN research only to find out it's listed as stolen".
Maybe there is more to this story.

I would, too, but maybe I'm just hopeful, eh?

And yes, if I ever buy another one, you can bet it will only be after checking VIN and verifying everything. Lesson learned.

I don't remember which States they came from originally but some GM 1955 cars still used the engine number as previously mentioned. Make sure you check this out cause it just might be the circumstance you are in. I went through this same thing with a 55 Chevy and it was easy to get right especially since I had saved the original motor.
    Good Luck

I would run your****le vin no. and also the vin no. on your chassis thru the National Motor Vehicle****le Information System (NMVTIS). Private partys can only access this database through approved vendors. I have used Instavin a couple of times. Each search cost 6.99.

If it was originally****led by the engine number, is the engine number the same as the number stamped on the frame or are they different? If different, it could still have originally been****led by the engine number and you may have the correct****le for the car.

My 55 Chevy numbers were different, that's why I posted here. Correct****le, different numbers. The car had the correct vin plate on door jam, that is what it got switched to.

  8. It should be clarified that GM did NOT require the use the engine number on****les, instead of the vehicle serial number, for****le identification.
Instead, the INDIVIDUAL STATES made decisions to either use the serial number or the engine number, on the****le.
I have never understood the value of using an engine number, where vehicle****le identification could be nullified, with an engine change.
IF the vehicle has a frame stamp identification, that frame number would coincide with the vehicle serial number, and not the engine number.

Let this be an example to everyone. GET the****le in your name as soon as possible. Don't waste years spending time and money on a car that might not be able to be****led in your name. If it's not****led get one in your name before working on it.

  11. If you have the KHP come and inspect it and the****le and vin don't match, they will impound the vehicle. Do what it takes to get a new****le as you can with a bill of sale because of it's age. Go to the Kansas website and read the requirements.

Update 7/8/2016- VIN was clean, KHP issued an inspection, and as of today, I have a fresh new****le. Moral of the story:****le it first, before you spend a penny on anything, just****le it as "off-road", so you won't have to pay back taxes when it's finished. Thanks to all who offered help.
