You know what? There is enough of us in this area to have garage nites and get togethers and what not... You know, build shit? Teach each other? Beat the night to build a roadster? We need to get together and build a scene - not some punk ass rockabilly music hot rod thing - a car scene!

I'll be the first to start. I have a garage and A '34 3 window that needs motivation. Been sitting for a few too many months and could be on the road shortly but i don't know how to work with fiberglass, plus I need to fire up that vintage Olds for the first time. How's this work? I assume there is beer involved somewhere.

It's on then. The kid is going to bed earlier so I'm up for some late nights here and there. Just tell me where and when. Been up 'till one or two every other night anyway trying to finish my car by mid October. I've officially put in for vacation on the 22nd-26th of Sept. And I'm planning on putting in 8 to 10 hour days to get it done.

So... anyone up for helping me finish this then? Need plenty of help lifting stuff and spare eyeballs to tell me when shit looks wrong.

Shit-can the beer and buy some DrPepper. But like I said, I can be places late and maybe swing part of a Sat. or Sun. here and there. Man, to look at it we could order a pizza and have your car done by the time the delivery boy pulled in the drive. If not then I'm fucked. [IMG]

Grimlok's place is first, we need to get him on the road in his own car. Besides I'd rather work in steel than glass.

See, there are three of us... We pick a night, expect late hours, and get some serious shit done...

Think if we let 5 loose on Kevin's roadster... Five folks could get a lot of shit done in 6 or 7 hours. Get our learn on and what not.

Shit man - five could have Chris' 34 running and driving in an hour easy...

Who else wants to play with us?

Want a suggestion? Too bad, I'm giving it anyway.

As gay as it sounds ya need some sort of flow chart. What you want done in what length of time. Start with one project that is close and finish it first. It will stem motivation for the other projects.

Make a thorough punch list including the sourcing of what parts to minimize trips to the parts house. Most of this you already know, but maybe just haven't organized anything formal. I have to do this stuff to be able to finish my projects in any decent time frame.

  10. you guys should get together and play bridge. maybe a tea party at ryans house? building tractors might get boring after awhile. [IMG]

oh yeah, you shouldn't cuss in your subject line because the queen who runs this place might delete it.

Very un-gay Root. If I showed pics of the rest of my basement you'd see I need all of the organizing I can get.

I'll make a list of shit I need to do and stuff I need to do it and start rounding up said stuff.

I still have some minor scrounging to do - gaskets and such - to get any effective work done on my car. Probably also need a torque wrench for finishing up the flatty that week and a cherry picker - you don't want to see my spooky ass setup. I'll start a search for the picker. Dusty? You out there?

I mainly need some chassis help - finishing up boxing and whatnot - and a few to help when the body goes on and comes off as we set up and weld on the chassis.

Speedracer - Come on down man. My paint and bodywork is nothing for a "bodyman" to look at, but maybe you could show me how to work it over?

Have to go pick up my daughter now but this has me more than a bit amped.

Chris - set up some sort of late nighter to fire that engine up. I'll be there. I can't do noisy stuff late at night anyway.

If you guys get something going, I will be in KC for goodguys and be willing and able ta help a fellow hamber fri and sat nite. Cal

  14. Along with Roots suggestion, here is another. It helpd if the car owner has some prelim stuff ready/done for the crew. Like if Grim is needing help on the motor, have all the parts there and ready. Otherwise your night gets derailed when ALL the parts arent there!

And BTW, that thing looks bitchin Kev.

A couple years back, I was involved with the model railroading hobby. A few guys in our loosely organized group of friends would host a "Train Night" once a month, with one going on almost every week at times. It was conceived as a means of getting work done on your layout and spending an evening with buds.

The way it worked was that the host would set up the night and time, and whoever wanted to come would show up. The host supplied pizza, subs, munchies, etc...and then assigned each participant a task that needed doing. Usually, guys got assigned to do things that they had an exceptional talent for...laying track, weathering models, adding Kadee couplers to the rolling stock, painting and decaling, etc. This helped each modeler tackle some impressive layouts and get them up and running quicker with input and help from friends.

Sounds like a great plan for cars as well! Host a "Hot Rod Night" and plan to order a few pizzas! Work gets done quickly by enthusiastic (and well fed [IMG]) friends...and it's fun to boot!

Grimlock, if you're planning a few late night wrenching sessions in late September, I may be available to help out by then...heavy lifting is out for me anymore...but I'd be happy to lend a hand with other tasks that need doing. I'll contact you in a few weeks to see if that sounds good to ya.

Heck, we can make this a NATIONAL gig...not that anyone but ME is crazy enough to drive around the country helping everyone with their rods...but local "Hot Rod Nights" could be organized amongst HAMBers in any given locale! I should be on the road most of the Winter months...available for working and/or hanging out with y'all!

  16. Well, if and when this fricken move ever happens, I will nominate my garage for a west side Detroit area get together, we can get together and laugh at how rusty my Fleetline is [IMG] Or figger out how to attach a straight axle to all that rust, and make a gasser out of it.

Seriously, Ryans right, I'm up for a Detroit garage tour, I know paint and body work pretty well, I can weld, am a kollege gradiate Diesel tech, can rebuild gas turbines, and even know the difference between a wrench and a screwdriver! Anyone else game?

Kevin- Nice meeting you the other night.

I'll fly back out to KC once the temp goes below 105 degrees, and would be happy to help on the car. But you guys will be done with it by then, right? [IMG]

Man, I would love to help where I can! Things are tight around the home front right now we just bought a house this summer and my wife is "customizing" the interior. I'm just there to install the kitchen, paint, and switch the outlets and switches without turning off the power. I have only been shocked 6 or 7 times...or is it 8 after your hand goes numb you really loose count!
I just might be able to break away for a few hours on a saturday.

Everyone who's interested: September 22nd and Sept 24th are DEFINITE days for me. I will be in the garage by 8:00 and work until my wife gets home. (5:00) That's a Monday and Wednesday. Sorry it's so split up and I realize this just won't be possible for some people - but there are unavoidable schedule conflicts on the 23rd and family comes first.

I am doing all I can to round up everything I'll need in the meantime. Also working late into the nights to finish out as much stuff as I can. Hopefully there will be very few runs to the parts store and we can spend the day building and being a general nuisance. Be warned: working conditions are primitive at best. Lighting is dodgy inside and many times tools are improvised.

I'll order some Pizza around lunch - If you want beer feel free to bring it.

Come hang out in sunny Mid Town KC. Be rowdy. Scare my neighbors. Who's in then? Seriously.

Chris? Dusty? What do you two have going on in the meantime? I'm there.
