haha, yeah, I hate modern shit... pretty easy for me to set aside a few hours a couple of times a year to paste wax a car... If you make yourself do it the rewards will be worth it, like I said before waxing a car the old fashioned way is good therapy and the car likes it too....

Thanks again Jeff! And, it is actually Fiesta Red but looks less that color when it starts to get chalky which is what started this whole thread. Most of my buddies give me crap about my "pink" car which I have never really seen myself, but you know how buddies are. :D

My understanding is that older automotive paints dulled quick and required regular maintenance to stay bright even when new. We tend to think of faded/dull paint as a consequence of age but I think we're just spoiled by newer paints and don't consider the maintenance... folks used to hand wash and wax their cars monthly or weekly after all. As much as it's a pain in the ass and as much as I'd rather be driving the car than rubbing it down with wax, it's probably just that simple.

I'd be wary of any clear coat type product offering a permanent 'fix' for old paint... eventually that compound may fail and need to be taken off, what will happen to your paint then?

I only wash the car when absoloutly necessary. Dust when I can. I use a very small amount of mild dish soap in a bucket of water when I do wash, then dry & hand buff using Spray Wax & Dry and old bath towels. It stays color fast & easy to dust or wash.

Lol...let's go with that since that is kinda like hitting the easy button which I am good at...sometimes. :D

Wait...this could easily turn into a patina discussion which isn't traditional.

  16. Not so much that the "dull" part gets me as much as the chalk getting over everything. It's funny, when it's chalky and it rains the ground around the truck is green.

Well if a can of Simoniz is good enough for Ralphie’s “old man” then it should be good enough for you!
