Been mentioned before... have a fairly clean shop, nothing that can be used for mice bedding. food crumbs etc laying around. Pulled the rear seat out yesterday from the 40 ford and found evidence of mice in the padding amongst the seat springs. I,ve heard using moth balls , dryer sheets etc. Any other new ideas that someone has come up with ?? Winter,s coming have to get ready .. Gene in Mn

    Hello,

I guess the search tab for the HAMB is not being used. Look up ultrasonic repellants for home/garage use. Sold by Amazon and work well without chemicals, poisons, cats, cat poop and other items. Just plug them into the outlet and all is nice, neat and clean. No mouse traps to clean, or mess to see. The ultrasound irritates their brains. I guess it is like a constant headache pain and irritates them so much, but in a kind way.

Plus, we can't hear it or our dogs aren't effected. If you have kids, no poison to worry about. The HAMB has a zillion posts about mice and other rodent problems...They all point to getting ultra sound devices for a clean repellent solution.

    Jnaki

It has worked for over 20 years in our current small house and garage. No droppings, residues or anything else related to mice, rats or other creatures. They all reside in our neighbor's yard, garage. They do not like ultrasound and so they trap and use poisons. But, we are the ones without mice or vermin problems... go figure...

I wonder if sheets of sticky mouse catcher sheets put on the floor around the tires so a mouse can't get to a tire without crossing it would work. My son used the sticky trap sheets in his camper to quickly eliminate a couple mice that avoided the regular traps.

I have tried a lot of different remedies, my shop/garage is surrounded by 20 acres of woods and horse pasture. The 4 best tools I have found are currently named Max, Maverick, Huba and Sissey. Car covers get a little fuzzy at times but rodent's are quickly stacked up near their food bowls. And during nice weather they are usually patrolling outside. They earn their keep. Not for everyone I know but it works for me.

After reading @jnaki's post I decided to search Amazon for these. Holy cow. There are enough there to make your eyeballs spin around.

So (and I don't think I'm hijacking this thread) what specific brand or model has been used successfully. Anyone comment please.

Our cats brought two little snakes into the kitchen a few weeks back.
    The garter snake was dead.
The ring neck snake was fine. I put him outside. Haven't seen one of those guys since probably 1965, oops I mean 1963.
The shredded paper mouse nests in my roll-around's drawers suggests Jack ( the Maine Coon cat) does not spend enough time in the garage.

I have not had any luck w/dryer sheets(name brand or not), Irish Spring soap(shaved or not), mint smells, sonic "repellents"(I'm guessing that there are different frequencies used, which are effective - idk). This was demonstrated by evidence of all either made or used as nesting &/or personal toilet. Along w/the interior, wiring, et-al destroyed just to prove it could be done... Hawks, occasional owl, eagles, coyotes(foxes long gone), possums, etc, don't make a dent... Hate snakes - & they don't do anything useful here anyways. Only thing that worked was Blackie(another throwaway I rescued) for ~10+ yrs, until she couldn't anymore, & the current kutzie doesn't/can't. She'll chase them, but doesn't kill - never learned how, was thrown-away/separated from mom too soon, but got saved here. Still a cutie & fun to watch... Thinking only useful device will be the anti-freeze filled 5gal pails w/anise/peanutbutter teaser - *if* I can figure out how to cat n varmint-proof them, as they need to be setup outside.
    Marcus...

    Someone say mice?

My wife rescued these feral cats 5 years ago, had them spayed and neutered
and then released them into our yard. We don't have mice any longer. Or birds, squirrels, rabbits, voles, etc. Furry little carnivores.

    Hello A,
Thanks for actually reading the post and earlier posts. Here are the latest ones we have 2023 versions.
    upload_2023-10-24_10-5-2.png

We have a nice little night light blue glow where they are plugged in place. The 2022 versions are in a different place in the house. No more little running feet sounds anywhere in the attic or rafters. 20+ years of sound, quiet sleep and solitude in the day and night. We bought different ones as the frequencies are different, so no complacency from the little critters.

    Jnaki

We are happy with the 20 + years of a mouse free environment. I actually got tired of seeing those bulging eyes when I went to dispose of those guys under the snapping bar traps, 21 years ago... Yikes !

Besides, if you guys have family or friends with a pregnancy situation, cat turds and sand traps are not the most healthy items for those wives, friends and kids. YRMV

    Vanilla scented tree air fresheners.
Not one sign in the 10 years I have had them in my OT H/O, yet trap them in my wife Jeep 5 ft away.

LOL! My wife had 14 when she first trapped them all. The kittens were all sent to the local prison for the inmates to domesticate them The older ones were going to be euthanized, so she did the right thing and brought them home.

@jnaki thanks for the information; I've been in an ongoing battle with the little varmints for quite awhile now.
I'm going to give the ultrasonics a try.

  17. Utilizing cats to keep your property mouse-free works, but...... it CAN be harmful to some individuals. We were adopted by a stray who we intended to be an inside/outside fur-buddy. At one point he got sicker than all get-out. Our vet diagnosed him as having salmonella poisoning, which can be contracted from mice and birds! It turns out that some cats don't develop an immunity to it and can contract it (most cats do develop immunity) and cat get seriously ill. We had to make that guy an indoor-only buddy, which turned out great, one of the coolest cats I've ever had, but damage done to his system early in life wound up shortening his life (RIP Bart).
So if you are using a cat as your henchman, keep an eye on his/her health....

Just bought a gallon of liquid peppermint, rodent repellent.
Their little lungs can't handle the fume. They clear out.
Meanwhile the place smells like candycanes.
Tommorrow I'll report the name of it.

Heater core was leaking and fan motor was sick. Replaced both and found out why! Truck sat in a garage for 27 years. Stopped counting at 18 when I pulled the blower motor. Was told they don’t like Irish Spring soap smell?

I posted this in another thread. A co worker who also owned a riding stable/horse boarding operation used this method to control mice. He mixes flour or corn meal with powdered cement or plaster. He sets it out where it will stay dry but the mice can find it. They eat it, it turns to cement in their stomachs. No mice, and if another animal eats the mouse it doesn't poison them.

  25. I recently installed peppermint bags in the Olds. In the past I’ve used dryer sheets which I guess were successful, but with this being my first winter with this car, I thought I’d try something different. I do have a couple of large black snakes living in my shop (one is over 6’ long) that keep the mice under control. I’d much rather have snakes than mice…

  26. I have used this means of trapping the little buggers. Use a bucket and a plastic drink bottle. Peanut butter for bait. Be sure and put a few inches of water in the bucket to off the mice.

I have used cheap dollar store dryer sheets with success for years. Have been using Grandpa Gus' now for a year with success. Peppermint and cinnamon scented oil bags. Safe for pets and kids.

How about figuring out where the mice get in first, and close off their entry to avoid infestation at all?

  29. I have used a product called "Fresh Cab" in the past with success.
