How about in the September 2005 issue? Chuck Vranas did an article on the shop in Garage Scene.

"Al" why don't you give us a sneak peak of your beautiful new ride?

I am looking for nothing but enlightenment. Yes, Doane (Don to his friends) Spencer remarked when viewing his freshly restored roadster “it should have been updated” he then turned his back on it. Continue to live in your version of the past.

If our version of the past is so disdainful, why come here for enlightenment? Surely you are already on a much higher plane than we. Isn't it we who should come to you for approval and the truth about all old things being better when they are made new?

You know, some things are better left in the past. The way hot rods are built is one of them. Old world craftsmanship is a dying art in many areas, and it's sad to see. Carrying on the torch for those who came before is an honorable task. Is it better that most expensive suits are made by machine now rather than a tailor? Is it better that art can be made in Photoshop without ever having to get ink on your hands? Is it better to leave the old letterpress in the ba*****t to rust? Is it better to stop teaching world and US history in schools? I mean, what does any of it matter? it's all in the past and we have found ways to update all of it. Who needs any of it anymore when there is something NEW?

Give me a break. Shortsightedness leads to large bumps on one's head from walking into walls one can't see.

The HAMB is not about driving an unfinished car, though many choose to do so. HAMBers enjoy the journey, the drive and friendships. Not one-upmanship trophy hunting.

The HAMB is made of mainly men and women who on the whole, prefer doing it themselves rather than the cubic dollar approach.

The HAMB seeks to preserve the way hot rods were built back in the day. Even taking that aesthetic and updating components for increased driveablity but staying true to that design aesthetic.

Prop up your crybaby doll, unfold that lawn chair, open your mind to the possibility that cars like ours and the owners who built them at the dawn of hot rodding paved the way for high dollar, ego stroking trophy hunters like yourself. Don't like that description? That is how you are portraying yourself.

As for my car, watch for an upcoming Street Rodder Magazine photo layout. Incidentally didn’t I see the Guru and his flunkies in SRM?

The rolling bones crew was in last months SRM with a layout about the bad *** tudor they just built. Besides, I wouldn't be tooting my horn too loud, some months it is a **** shoot as to what type of cars are going to be in SRM. I do have and have had for a long time a subscription to SRM which is a fine publications but some of the cars they choose are down right HOKEY!!! I see much cooler stuff tucked in the corners of some of the big shows that never get in a mag because the photographers wont get off their golf carts and look for any thing that is not in the pro pick area. I dont know Ken, but his cars have THE LOOK and that is what matters.

Al Hodges SLC" Well Al, i I think you stepped in **** here. I've had a car featured in Street Rodder but I wouldn't brag about it on the HAMB. I've met guys like you before at shows who poured money at a car and expect everyone to go down on themselves over it. They are actually pissed when they don't get a two buck trophy at the end of the day. I'm usually gone by the time the trophy *****s pick up their plastic hardware. The only reason I can see to build a car is to enjoy it myself, don't really care what anyone else thinks but if they like it it makes me happy. You obviously are an instinctively unhappy person. No amount of recognition will change that.

There is only one way you are going to get every one to realize how great your tupperware buggy is, and that is to post a picture of this modern marvel of hot rodding. You have created such a negative opinion of your self that no matter how *****in if any your car is, it (your car) will always be known as "the car that jack *** owns".

I've been keep a low profile about this post as I was there when this BOZO thinks he got put down. I didn't see it that way at all. Maybe if he'd hung out for awhile and had a beer with us, he'd realize why we were having so much fun. It's not the cars, it's the people that the cars bring you in contact with.
Anyway, Kens cars don't have alternators. They have GENERATORS! Maybe not for long, but generators did go both ways on that trip.

    Paul,

Do you mean to say that this guy is for real? I'll be stuck in mud! I thought for sure it was a put on, cuz no one could possibly be that...retarded. But I guess I was wrong. Oh well, so much for humanity.

The HAMB has been portrayed as a bunch of guys sitting around someone's garage bench racing, lying to each other, drinking beer and asking questions.
If this guy showed up at my garage ranting and raving like he did, I'd throw his *** out.
Oh ,and buddy, if your such a thoroughbred, go **** in someone's elses garage... Like coddington.

Paul, you are so right. I'm sorry I missed this man's alleged put down. We all seem to be missing one thing though. He simply voiced an opinion (screwed up as it is) and has been maligned since his post. Perhaps a genteel approach would have been in order. It is us HAMBers that now appear to be the elitists.

there are elitists in every circle... even the HAMB.

im glad his 1st post wasnt worded differently... that would be fake - he came here to whine and i dont know of many people that would care to talk to someone for the first time just to get an ear full.

it goes without saying, there are plenty of cars i like but their owners are ****s... i dont have to like the builder to enjoy a car, same goes for music.

    people are *****s, period.

  17. Do you think he cares?
Sam nailed it though...some wanna-be is sitting back and laughing at all the stink.

When will this board get it, that there will always be those that dont.
All my best travel buddies have shinny cars, my paint was laid down in 1979, looks great at 50-50. It's mine the way I want it...Ken does his own thing and it's cool. Met him several different times at York and talk with some other '*****s' at Hershey...sorry but didnt get the same vibe. Even though my paint was shiny.

    Al,
Did you get picked last in kickball as a kid? If its a popularity contest you're looking to win, maybe you should have invested in a good the******, to help walk you through Id/Ego/Super Ego and not thrown your gold card down for pretty paint and upholstery. Salt lake might not be the place for you, I'm sure Boyd has room up his *** for another dilrod, and you may end up on TV.

Visit Montana you won't like any of our **** either, and..... WE DON'T CARE.

definitely, BTTT, for one the most useless thread since? I know when. Yank the chain, yank the chain and all links rattle, rattle, rattle. Drama kings, ranters, ravers, elitists and rusty chainers speak. Yup "traditional bs". Now, when will the "kiss of death" come?

So, if Paul was there, where was I, and Ron? I know...that was the night I decided to do laundry. I was down the street at the laundry mat for over an hour...haha, wish I was there.

Larry, it wasn't that big of a deal. I don't even remember what his car really looked like. It certainly didn't crowd my pants. Maybe it was the GMD's I was putting away with regularity. At any rate Al made a big deal out of what I thought of as a little teasing.

  24. oh **** Chris, you know what, speaking about missing eachother, I was at the store attched to the laundromat and was right behind a Rolling Bones member, but it wasnt you, he was buying soap or something though, ha,ha

    Al,

If you throw (submit) enough **** at the wall some of its bound to stick (to the pages).

Just cause you published doesn't mean you built it, know how it works or could fix it... but hell you probably got the trailer painted to match.

  26. For your information, I don't have a 'HAMB mentality.'

I think of it as 'that special HAMB-fresh feeling.'

I remember the car, nicely done street rod. Street rod correct in every way. Would be held in high regard at any street rod event. To bad he wasn't attending one. Whats GMD? Could that be Genuine Miller Draft? MGD? I was drinking Corona.

Come on Ron, You know it was Genuine Miller Draft. That Corona **** gave me a headache. Plus I had to look for you or Dave to open it for me. Give me a real twist off cap when I'm drinking, I don't have time to look for an opener. Plus when Dave sliced me a lime, I didn't know what he was cutting just before he sliced a lime. Could be anything.
