Decided to build a "28" Brookville-Ford roadster, full fendered. Also decided to weld up my own frame. I keep seeing frames with a 2 inch kick up at the tail end. Does anyone know if this style frame will cause a case of burnt rubber on the rear fenders or would there be clearance. Don't know what size tires yet but they will probably be whatever is the recommended size for good looks and that sort of thing. Just getting started so may have lots of questions in the near future. Thanx for any replies. Jack
Kick up size means very little unless you know what type of springs and what type spring mounts/crossmember. there are many options on that type of build "with" fenders. Got any thoughts on what style suspension you want? Post it up and maybe get some tech help here.
At this point (the beginning of it all) looks like a Ford 9 inch rear, SBC engine with auto trans. Open to suggestions except no flathead engine, already have that in my 40 Ford. Jack
Agreed. Jack Fox, Since you're new to the HAMB, I strongly suggest that you go to the main HAMB page, click on the "Introduce Yourself" section and do that. Some folks here will ream you a new one if you don't. There's also a sticky you should read. Tman usually chimes in with the link, but I don't have it. I'm still a newbie, but I've seen what happens if you don't intro yourself. I'm just sayin'... Your choice...
Most guys building old style will go transverse spring. But, if you maybe want rear coils, but not coilover, there are a few hambers who swear by that setup on fendered cars. I hope I get the name right; I think it is Brian Angus. He has put up build plans that are very detailed on older threads. Detailed enough for someone to build their own ch***is. Try searching in advanced search with that name, and look for key words like coils, frame or ch***is. Or maybe someone can put up a link to his tech.
Jack, here is the tech thread. you should give it a read IMO. I figure you already have a flatty traditional 40, and maybe want to go a little different build style? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=150434&highlight=frame
2" isn't enough kickup if you want tires tucked up in the wheel well. think mine is 4 ish...and with 31's the tire is at the top of the wheel well area with out fenders. best i remember from mocking it up , it would have around 2" of clearance between the tire and the fender. also had to notch the subrail and the wheelwell area.
