got a 65 olds jetstar for free off craigslist once it was in peices but most of the restoration was done the original 425 was built with lots of go fast parts

the funny thing was that the guy who gave it to me was convinced it was a cutlass

i just went alog with him didnt hurt his feelings ( he had been restoring this thing for years and didnt even know what is was)

i wish it was a cutlass i would of kept it !!!!

A friend of my sister, her father gave me a 56 and a 57 olds. One 2dr ht one 4 door ht when i was 17 and they had low miles on them (30-40k).They were sitting in his shed for years. He was a olds nut and thought i would be one to.But at that time i wasn't and traded the junk yard for car parts i could use. When he found out they went to the junk yard he wasn't happy...
I wish i had them now as they were nice running and driving cars....

    Glendale -

I still cant believe that someone gave what looks to be very solid plymouth suburban with a nice interior ...for FREE. That is very cool car.

    Nice work!

  8. I don't think I posted this here yet. I got this '33 OLds for $75 tow fee. I got a call from a friend who said "get over to Kimball and Catalpa (that's northside chicago) right away". A guy had given up on selling it when his new SUV got hit on the street. He pushed it to the curb and called a junker to haul it away. I even got the title from the guy.........and some free sidewalk-chalk flames.

Beat you. I stopped to check directions while chasing an elusive '32 coupe and the guy had a 1940's pump in the corner of his shop. I asked if it might be for sale. "Yup..................$25, just what I paid for it 20 years ago. I thought I'd get around to restoring it, but it isn't going to happen."
The pump came home with me, the '32 is still out there................somewhere.:)

I was asked if I wanted a junk 351 Cleveland engine for scrap. Was told it had a rod making noise at start up. I went to get it and there sat a complete 351 Cobra Jet.... I was a happy camper.

  14. At a car show I picked up a batch of free stuff - '68 Toronado cluster with the funky drum speedo, the master P/W switch, wiper arms, glove box and some other pieces. Ignition had the key in it yet. Figured that was worth having if nothing else. Guy gave up on selling it and didn't want to take it home. That P/W switch aught to be worth a $20 to someone, too, I'm sure it fits a lot of other GM cars.

Picked up a big slot car set there, too, like the biggest set in the J.C. Penney catalog from 1984.. no cars, so free. Stuff in the box is all like new -

  19. I got a complete/running Austin Devon 4 door (the type they make gassers out of) for free. only rust on it was under the rear seat from mice.

  20. Lots of stuff, nothing recent. July '72, home on leave from the Air Force - a guy knows I have an old Ford, asks me if I want another one? I go over & look, it's a '56 Fairlane 312, complete but tree damage & twisted frame, had '64 Cali plates on it. It's my parts car for the project. Summer '74, got a ragged out '65 Mustang ragtop, 289, 4spd, $50 & drove it home (barely). 1980 - got a '66 Catalina ragtop - $75, needed a top & a "389 tuneup" (timing chain/gears).

got 3 Rimac valve spring testors 0 to 350 pound that I will probably end up selling 2 of
Also picked a dayton benchtop 3 ton arbor hand press all for free.

They were in cleaning mode at work and I volunteered to take them so I could "free up some space" and they said ok.

Ok... I live near an old Air Force Base so I guess this may be the reason, but in the last year I've found two WWII bomber air tanks for $12 and $3. They were both in one of the bins just about to be loaded in the trailer to be melted down. They were found at different yards, but basically the same situation - odd.

Also, about two years ago a guy kept listing that he had a whole truck load of performance/tools for free. I laughed, but add my name and number to the list. While I was not first, I was the only person who left a number and he called me about 2 weeks later. This guy was serious, he was a muscle car guy who was simply ready to get rid of everything. I remember pulling up to his garage shocked. There was tons of stuff! I can remember most of it, see below for a small list.

    Polished Chevy 350 Intake
    Holley 4150 Carb
    Holley 4160 Carb
    Ford 2300 Carb
    Small sand blaster
    Complete Holley rebuild kits
Chevy 350 and 450 copper exhaust gaskets
    Chevy rally caps
    2-3 Nova/Camaro radiators
    Electric orbital sander
Air grease gun (I used it for the first time today!)
    Box of Holley carb parts
    Box of engine parts

Oh yeah, I bought a '68 F-100 from a guy for "whatever" I had in my wallet - $37. He was a bit mad about the price, but the seller made the offer.

Bought a "mystery" set of Jaeger gauges at the Bowling Green Hot Rod Reunion. Speedometer and cable driven tach with a built in clock ...for $50 for the pair. They are in really nice condition.

Doing a quick search in the internet, they appear to be for a 1953 MG TD (that is the first year I see the "main Beam" indicator at the bottom of the speedo.

Any guesses what the going rate is for these? ....Not that I will sell them.

Here's mine...Found this on craigslist earier in the week. Had it listed as 63 nova 6 cylinder for $25 obo... Yes, $25. Went and picked it up today. Almost fell over when I noticed that it had a Mallory dualpoint distributor in it. He said it ran nice a couple of years ago. Pulled it out of his 63 SS Nova convertible to put a 327 in. Using this in my 29 Chevy roadster.

Engine is missing the waterpump, waterpump pulley & fan and the aircleaner. Everything else was included including the carb, dizzy, coil, engine harness, etc...
