Set of NOS old torque thrusts, 15x8, the kind that the spokes are a goldish color, complete with caps and old NOS bias ply tires. Basically free, a buddy threw them in on a trade I was already happy with.

Some almost new polished, finned SBC valve covers. $35 on ebay

I bought a 28 Model A 2 door sedan body at an auction for $7 with a very good cowl and floor braces and one good quarter panel. It also has a tree that has grown around the drivers door post that the owners cut around before the sale. Guess i will recoup some money when I burn the log for heat. I'll have to post some pics sometime, pretty funny. I missed the part of the auction when they sold an Essex cowl for $3. I got a 42 Chevy sedan delivery for nothing last year. My friend just wanted it out of his way. He paid $200 for it, so it is no gem, but with a donated 4 door it has potential. I also got a 35 or 36 IH grille shell, 15 x 10 60's vintage E/T 5 bar wheels, a bunch of headlights, 38 Chevy Pickup front fenders, some Willys truck parts and some 65 Mustang stuff for free last year. She told me to clean out the building, so I did. Almost forgot, I bought a 350 Chevy 4 bolt at an auction for $2, sold it the next week for $180. Now that is the best percentage margin I have ever made!

I have lost count of the number of deals I have had for a hundred bucks or less. A few recent ones in the last year are an Offy Y block intake for free, Black Diamond Drill Grinder for $100, Atlas/Craftsman lathe with tooling for $100, Set of 4 Torq Thrust wheels for $10.58 each plus several slots for the same price, 54 Ford Mainline for $200.00 that came with 2 running Y blocks and a 3 speed plus a trunk full of extra trim. Sold some of the extra trim for over $200.00 so I actually got the car/engines free and made money. Most recent was a whitewall grinder last week. Got it for listing a couple tire machines on eBay for a friend of mine. Listing fees cost me 50 bucks and they did not sell so there were no other fees.

My 3x2 for my 318 Poly was $90 at a swap meet. :D

Dude across the street drives a Home Depot delivery truck. He passed some boxes on the side of the highway several times over the course of a few days. Eventually, he got curious, and stopped to check. Inside was an undented, freshly painted bobber tank and rear fender!

He sold 'em for $5 each!

    But wait, it gets better...

He took one of the $5 bills and bought lunch ata gas station while he filled up. He spent the other $5 on a Keno card, and played 6 numbers.

AND THAT MOFO WON THREE M'R F'N THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!!!

    No shit.

My carb was on the fritz and a rebuild was going to be costly to have everything I needed.

Ebay handed me a NOS brand new 58 year old shelf queen that was never sold and sat on the dealer shelf for $22

It is on the car and made all my woes disappear. :) Getting it right when you need it for next to nothing..... priceless.

    from nowhere...

Its been 10 years now, but we bought an old, clapped out two door Desoto, and an old Chrysler, in a dilapidated chicken coop a friend owns, for the sum of $100.00 ( I know NOT under, but its CLOSE...)

We still have 'em, and though the bodies are shit-shot, we are just waiting for the right thing to do with the 241 and 392 ( yep...) Hemi's...

I was looking for a pre-'73 F-100 9" rear end to put under my '48 panel. The ones I found at swap meets the sellers were asking $200-500 for rusty beaters and the ones I found on Craigslist and the newspapers weren't any cheaper. In October of last year I saw an ad on Craigslist for a '72 F-100 for $200 or parts. I waited a week or two and finally emailed the seller and asked if he still had the truck and would he be interested in selling just the rear axle. He emailed back telling me he had some one interested in the truck but if the deal fell through he'd let me know. Two days later he emailed and said he'd take $75 for the rear axle and drive shaft. I drove 150 mile round trip to pick it up. I got to the guy's house, he had the truck completely dismantled and in a trailer waiting to be taken to the scrap yard. The axle was sitting on his garage floor, it looked almost new, considering it was from a 35 year old truck. I paid for it and loaded it into my truck. The next day I pulled it out of my truck and the brake drum came off. I looked at it, it was brand new, along with the other drum, shoes and all of the hardware. I figure I got at least $200 worth of parts, not including the axle.

Back in the '70's when I was a kid pumping gas, some guy came in and needed gas, but he was completely broke. He popped the trunk, and there sat an early Pontiac tri-power intake and carbs. He asked if I would fill his tank in trade for the intake. I checked my pockets and found about 3 dollars in change. That got him about a half tank of gas, and got me the tripower. I sold it a few weeks later for $125.

I picked up a complete 55 Chrysler 300 dual quad set-up in great shape for $100 at a garage sale. Had linkage, both carbs and nice clean intake but no air cleaners. Also gave me a early Hemi Magneto for $20. I put the dual quad on e-bay and it brought over $1,400. This was about 6 years ago. I sold the mag to a "friend" for $100.

A little OT but when I was going to college in Austin TX in '91 I got a '71 Cutlass S with a bad engine for $50. Straight as heck, I swapped the motor in the parking lot of my apartment complex and drove it for a year.

It wasn't till I became a member of the HAMB that I figured out the 'rod knock' was loose torque converter bolts! At the time my only torque wrench was in inch pounds, and I'd thought it was foot pounds!
