So im sitting here in my OT daily driver. It's 106 out in the Phx valley. Been sittin here for a good 2 hours. Why sit in the heat you ask? Well the catalytic converters on my car are toast and I took it to a small little shop that said he could do it for pretty cheap. Sweet I thought. 3 hours later, 2 broken manifold studs, 1 stud cut out with a torch, my car set on fire and 2 cats cut out, I had enough and told them to just leave it and give it back to me. Wante to charge me another couple hundred bucks to remove the manifolds and remove the broken studs. I can do that myself and it's free! I took it there for the ease of not having to do it myself. Lesson learned. If you want to done right, it helps to do it yourself sometimes.

So as I bake here in the sun waiting on my brother to come tow me home, I have been on here re-reading posts and learning more and more. It amazes me how awesome the people in this group are! Thanks for letting me rant and for letting me learn as well!

Well, I was working on my daily driver today. A 2006 Jetta TDI. I will never buy another VW again. I had to replace the drivers front hub ***embly. It is mounted with bolts that use a proprietary socket. I had the correct socket and stripped one anyway. So, out came the welder, then the tap and die set, and then finally a cut off wheel. The car is back together less the prorietary bolts in exchange for good old american made hex bolts! Sorry my story isn't about my 54. Sometimes daily drivers need love too!

co workers ot escape needed an altenator replaced. he could either raise car and drop crossmember to access or remove plenum, ac a**** other stuff and get to it from the top. local ford garage repaired it for him. he is very handy mechanically, but he didnt want to be that involved with a "simple" altonator repair.

I had to have my radiator recored. 2 hose clamps and 4 bolts and lots of room to take it out. Cars sure have changed.

Yep, when I was trying to get my 56 to run cool, I pulled the water pump three times in a week. I won't even touch the water pump on my wife's Durango.
It turned out to be the water temp gauge reading about 60º too hot. The gauge is a new Stewart Warner with a new sending unit. It seems like you can't get your moneys worth on any new part you buy.
