Ha ha. Yeah- here’s my meager contribution… Li’l John Buttera once said in a Hot Rod magazine interview, “Always try to make the best part you can with the skills you have. If it isn’t good enough, throw it away and make another. Every time you make a part, your skills will increase… and you’ll make a better part than you were capable of making before.” IMO, craftsmanship also needs to be consistent with a car’s theme... For example, my Model A Tudor has a late ‘60’s drag theme. There will be some bling, but unlike ‘60’s “dipped-in-chrome” show cars, its intake will remain as-cast and the wheels (Fenton Gyros & ET 5-spokes) will have machined outer lips. Not because I’m lazy or indifferent to great craftsmanship, (quite the contrary) but because that’s what many of the Altered and Gassers in Montgomery’s books had.
