As a kid living in the rural South I fell in love with hot rods, I built the models and read Henry Gregor Felsen books like hot rod, Crash Club, Street Rod, etc.

I saw my first 32 Ford when I was a kid and ended up buying the car when I was 12 years old, the die was cast & I was hooked, I have owned many old cars since that time and a total of 10 '32 Fords over the years, that obsession hasn't changed, it's still my favorite car, seeing that first one just set the hook with me.

There is also a wagon that is a big part of our lives in the garage and I enjoy driving and riding, it belongs to my wife.

I think the old adage is true, even with age, the more things change the more they stay the same. HRP

  3. I have a large number of those trucks. The only difference between a 64 -65 and 66 chevy pickup are the 64 has a fender badge and the vin is located on the front of the cab door frame. the 65 has the badge located on the cowl cover and the vin on the cab at the top of the door frame. the 66 has the vin in the same location as the 65 . the badge is on the fender at a different location and is a different style than a 64. the 66 had a different steering wheel and all 66 had rear back up lights. Just about a nickles difference between the three years. and in 66 you could get a turbo 400 trans.

Now that you've got me thinking about it, I guess my automotive tastes haven't changed that much in 50+ years. From age 11 I liked '28-'40 Fords, '56, '61&'62 Chevys, '40-'41 Willys, the typical hot rod material. Still do, I've got a '28 roadster and a '56 210 in the fleet today, sold the '40 Willys pu. But since I've gotten older I've added '49-57 Fords & '62 Fords as well as a '65 GTO and a '64-'65 Buick Skylark to the list.
But here is where the "old man" in me really starts to show; I've almost pulled the trigger on a '55-'57 T-bird and a '58-'62 Corvette. I didn't, but only because I haven't found the right one. You seldom see a young guy driving those cars, no offense to present company, I know there's some Vette and T-bird owners on here. Lol

  5. I haven't changed much. still don't care for 4 doors. Still don't care for automatic transmissions. Still want a car with a frame rather than a unibody. Never want to own another Ford Mustang. Pontiac V8 small journal small block chevys an FE Fords are my preferred engines. Never wanted a fenderless vehicle. And still think Y block fords, 348 & 409 chevys and V6GMC engines are boat anchors. And I have owned several of all three and learned my lesson .

I think you misunderstood my post. I was talking about the difference between 64-66 Pontiac Catalinas. Because I don't think I can post my 66 Catalina on here were as you can post something like a 66 C10 because it's the same as a 64. Hope that clears up what I was saying. Look at my first post and hopefully you'll see.

From the first time I ever saw a 33 ford coupe I wanted one. Oh, 34s were ok but I liked the 33's front sheetmetal better. 3 windows were ok too but they weren't street-race tough looking like a chopped 5 window. It wasn't 'till I was 60 years old I decided I was either going to have to get busy building one or just sit around talking about it. It's been on the road almost 2 years now. 34lake1.jpg

How age has changed me is all those ugly old 40/50's Dodges/Fords/Chevy's, etc I saw in the 70's, are now beautiful cars. Should have pulled a Jim Sibley and bought them all and stacked them out back!

Saw this today and put my '29 Steelback in the cl***ifieds. Another birthday on Monday, I'll always be an onlooker, real happy I found the 1911 Hupmobile after 50 years of searching. Merry Christmas. Bob

My first real car came to me as a way to keep me out of trouble, 65 pony car thing. Spent a year in the garage fixing it up, at least Mom and Dad knew where I was . I sold that car and went into debt on a new version of what I started with. After that one I dove into the year 1936 with my Chevy pickup that we picked up in ‘74 and spent all of my earnings on that, I still have it by the way, then another 65, 72,79,36, 38, 85,89,91,93,95,98,03,04,06,07,08,26 and so on and so on. You get my point. Now being a bit older , my old 36 Chev isn’t working out the way it used to and I find myself looking for a bit newer ride. I really hate to say this because it’s kinda OT but I would really feel “ comfortable” in a 66-67GTO. I will never part with my 36, it’s gonna go to my son but I feel the need for more comfort and safety features. Life goes on I guess. What ever I end up with will no doubt be a traditional type of car, no billet, huge wheels or late model drivetrains, that’s not my way. I’m just hanging on and will see what happens. Mitch

Yeah i know what you mean, the model A bug bit me on the *** and i went crazy. But getting in and out of them is getting harder on me lol. So i went for something with more room. Don't get me wrong, i still love my 28-31 Ford's, and I'm always on the lookout for a deal

From the Man himself: "The HAMB is dedicated to spreading the gospel of traditional hot rods and kustoms to hoodlums world wide. That's right; TRADITIONAL. If you've come here to discuss anything other than Hot Rods or Customs built in a style representative of 1965 or before, you've come to the wrong forum."

A '66 full-size Pontiac has same basic body, etc as a '65. Plus, I wanna see your '66! I've had a '65 Catalina and a '66 Bonneville and love those ol' boats!

Another example, when my boy was around 6 or 7 years old he told me he wanted a 48 Chevy truck. He wouldn't shut up about them trucks lol. Personally i wasn't a fan of that body style. They was like an ***hole, everybody had one. Screenshot_20191221-211414_Gallery.jpg When he turned 15 i bought him a 52. Very solid truck out of New Mexico. We worked on it together for a while, until he decided girls were a lot more fun than dad and that old truck. I got the truck running and driving. And by the time i sold it I had fell in love with it. Now I'm looking everywhere for a project and they're nowhere to be found, not that i can afford anyway lol

My brother and I shared a '53 in college in the 70s. We paid $150 for it ($75 each). Drove it all over the place until my brother, running about 70 on the highway, threw a rod right through the block, about a fist-sized hole. Amazing thing was it still ran but shook like a paint mixer. We sold it to a policeman for buck and bought a quart of Miller with our $1.

That is my beautiful wife, Mrs. Ashley. She's my best friend. She's a hot rodding, dart throwing, deer killing, catfishing nut! Screenshot_20191221-214655_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20191221-214635_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20191221-214627_Gallery.jpg

I'd love to paint it but it's a big car. Paint jobs done right are like 10 grand. For now I just want to finish stripping it and get it in epoxy. I have a bunch of 2k black rat rod paint from Eastwood I might put on it. The only reason it's on jack stands is because there was a **** ton of leaves under it I wanted to get out so it didn't get wet under there and cause damage. The under carriage is all painted and I don't want it to get messed up.
