Log onto www.b17.org for The B-17 "Salute to Veterans" Tour Schedule for 2004. Sure the 45 minute flight is spendy but so is maintenance on a B-17
Here's a couple from my collection. These were taken last Memorial Day across the street from my home.
[ QUOTE ] Last one... Rat [/ QUOTE ] hmmm looks familiar... Mine was done off of the original colors. That one was repainted by the son of the guy who originally painted it. SSSB was originally aluminum, but because of so much damage during the years and new parts made, they decided to paint her OD like the bombers that came before her.
Aside from all the Vargas type babes, one of my favorite nose art designs shows Felix the Cat using a round cartoon bomb, with a lit fuse sticking out of the top, as a bowling ball. I first saw this in an old Rodder's Digest article on traditional-style hot rods. Years later, I noticed this same drawing on one of the carrier-based dive bombers in the movie "Midway" Its in one of the scenes where the American planes are taking off from the deck of the ship. Cool stuff.
i never want to see that picture of the B17 scrap yard again. there haven't been many things that have made me as sad as that for a long time. nose art is cool, got my own art project in my mind. y'all will see it sometime. oh, and tibbets was over hiroshima in the enola gay. "bock's car" hit nagasaki.
Hells Angels was the first B-17 to complete 25 missions... however, due to the name and being a rotational crew the next one was the famous Memphis Belle with most of the original crew.

Before my 40th birthday (or on) I intend to take a ride in a P-51 and I don't care what the cost is. This is some art I did for an ex girlfriend. She was Jewish, and the bomb had a star of David in chalk written on it, but I took it off when we broke up. Me at Rockford with the "Dragon and his Tail" a few years ago. Went to see her fly since the only 24 I'd seen flying was Diamond Lil, but it was stormy so no luck. As Hellfish likes to point out, from my pre-ROCKERIFIC days. haha.
Hey Django...that is fantastic work man !!! You got anymore to show us ? Carolina Moon on another B 17 Rat
Django, DANG! that is awesome work. Did you do that with the airbrush? I mean, it looks airbrushed in the traditional way, I was just wondering if there is any computer hokus pocus in there? Either way, that is GREAT! Lets see more. OH and this post is NOT O/T at least in my book. Hot rods have a direct connection to this stuff. These pics of the bombers and the crews just always make me get choked up. I always imagine what they went through and how horrendous just ONE bombing run must have been. WOW. Keep it coming.
Kingman looks nothing like that now. some jets and stuff, but notheing really big. I woulda paid good money just to walk around that junkyard.
[ QUOTE ] Hey loudpedal more pics of your brothers car please. [/ QUOTE ] There are a few pics of it on this post: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=377360&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&fpart=6&vc=1 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=377360&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&fpart=7&vc=1 Check it out... LP
Loudpedal, that's******in. Don't get too excited on the Brazen Bombshell. The girl is a vintage pin up. I just outlined her and did the rest on the computer. The only thing I airbrush anymore is solid colors. The last time I tried and started thinking, "damn, this would be sooo much easier in photoshop" and I never looked back. Here's one from the Pileup. I'm not sure who's car it is. Here's one I did for when Fastsporty and I were drag racing his Sportster...
