I find myself outgrowing my current 1 bay Crapsman top and bottom box. I've been checking with the local Snap-On, Mac, and matco guys for a used 2 bay bottom box, but they still want $2k plus...which is out of my budget. I've also been checking the papers and Egay with no avail. Anybody have any ideas for getting/finding one for a better price?

Costco has a beautiful stainless steel tool box available for about $600 from time to time. I think they stock them up in the fall for the Christmas buying season; I doubt that they are available all year around. A couple of my buddies have them and are really pleased. Even if you had to buy two to get the volume you require, you would be money ahead.

i got one of these bad boys at the local home depot not too long ago...sure it isn't a snapon, mac, matco, crapsman, etc...but it has ball bearing drawers, and was alot less...i got mine for $400..put it on the home depot charge card and it's interest free for a year. the top box was $300 i believe...
it's a husky, but husky is made by matco...who cares, it holds tools. and lots of them.

I bought the same box as kritz, top & bottom, about 6 months ago, Home Depot. I really like this box. Good quality.

    Thanks for the tip...

and I always told myself I wouldn't buy anything from a "home center" for the rod...

Sam's Club has a pretty nice looking Stainless Top and Bottom too. I just saw one in there last week and the price was less than $700.

I just bought the same box about 2 months ago. It is made by MAC Tools and sold through Home Depot. My Dad has a MAC in the garage that my older brother gave him when he got a bigger one, you can put mine right next to it and without looking at the tag not be able to tell them apart. The MAC was about $1500 when my brother bought it, the on from the Depot was $600.

I looked at the stainless boxes a bunch of times, really liked them, but I noticed over a period of a month or so, 4 or 5 trips to Sams, that handprints, etc really showed up a lot on the stainless boxes, didn't like the way they looked after 2 million grubby hands handled them. But they are nice boxes, I just liked the one @ Home Depot better, plus I got a 10% off coupon for opening an account and paid it off 6 months no interest.

I found a damaged upper & lower and they were about half price. It is like the Sears or whomever that are Black with Gold drawer pulls. The top box had been stepped on and the lid was smashed,I never close it anyway . The bottom had one rear corner scraped real bad and some denting. I think I gave $325 for both . You may check with Sears or where ever you see they are selling them for one with damage. I purchased mine from a farm supplystore.

I broke down about two years ago and bought the Homak one at Sam's It has the fancy ancy keyless entry (which I don't use). It was around $550. Love it!! It's 42" wide and around 6ft tall. However, Sam's stopped selling this one and went to the stainless one and raised the price. I bought mine just as they were transitioning to the stainless one. It's still a great bargin. The quality is really good and the price is VERY good.

I was at Sear's one day and a father and son were debating on buy a setup there. It was $1200. I told them about the one at Sam's and that they could almost buy two of the stainless ones for the price of the Craftsman. Basically the same specs.

The one our local Lowes carries is around $900. I don't think the quality is quite as good (still nice) but even if the specs are close, the one at Sam's win because it's $300 cheaper!

    Go to Sam's...

BellM is right. The handprints were the thing I didn't like about the stainless. At the time, I didn't think I'd put stickers on mine. Well, those would cover the hand prints. And, to be honest, my black and gold one is showing my nasty hand prints too....

I found a Craftsman rolling toolbox with some tools at my local pawn shop and talked em down to $100. Make sure you go to a big, chainstore type pawnshop (like Cash America) as they're most likely to give you a good deal just to make space for items that turnover more often than tools. The other nice thing about the big chains is that they let you return stuff with no bullshit. I realize that the shit might be stolen and at the time was replacing stuff of mine that had been stolen, but someone's gonna buy it and if the cops could have figured out whose stuff it was, it wouldn't be in the pawn shop...

I was just at Lowes and HD, and could not find anything better than what Crapsman has. In fact, they were a little more than the Craftsman boxes.

With Sears, just watch the saale ad's or check their website on occasion. I bought a ball bearing roll cab, middle and top box, and also a 6HP air compressor, and saved about $280 over regular price. The basic Crapsman roll cab I bought a couple days ago, I saved $70 off the regular price. Plenty good enough for a car detailing cabinet.
