Man that's great news I know you must be relieved. The look of complete joy turned to panic pretty quick when that sucker was wobbling.

So today I finished tying up all those loose ends. I made a heater hose bypass which I had forgotten. I pulled the shifter arm off for Jeremy to Tig up. I got the bolts and put the lower pulley and upper pulley and fan back on. I got the engine belt on and adjusted. I got a new oil filter and installed that. I got a battery box and cable but it was a few inches too short.

    Here's what's left now...
Tig the shifter arm then install and hook up cable.
Install front clip and wire headlights/turn signals.
Attach radiator hoses and fill coolant.
Attach trans cooler and fill trans.
Wait on parts store to get a bulk roll of battery cable this afternoon then cut to fit for battery relocation in the bed.

Here's a shot of the Lokar throttle and tv cable setup...

    Here's the fuel rail...

Once its driving and dialed in, I'll be cleaning up the wiring and replacing the plug wires with white wires making it look nice and pretty. I can almost smell the tire smoke now...

Lets see the battery box. that's what I'm researching right now. What size cable did you use? I was going to go with 2g

The box is just a plastic POS I got for $11. I am using 4 gauge for the cable. I'm just waiting on O'reillys to get a roll in this afternoon.

Yeah I think I was going to use a Plastic Summit box you can buy for $10 as well. And then upholster a cover to just slip right over it to jazz it up and hide it at the same time. I really don't like the idea of the battery sitting in the back of my car with things being thrown around it and on it so I think one of those plastic boxes is a good option.

Yeah, the battery box is one of those compromises I've been forced to make. The firewall sure looks good without the battery there. But it has to go somewhere. The bed is the least conspicuous place. And like you said, I can hide it with a tuck'n'roll cover or maybe inside a larger upholstered box that can hold jumper cables and oil and etc..

  9. Wow terd looks killer. The white wires are really going to set it off nicely. I think once they are in there the throttle cable will blend in more as it won't be backed by the black wires. Maybe some white on the distributor cap?

Thanks!! Once its driving and fine tuned, I'll get everything in the engine bay sorted. Besides the plug wires, I'll have correct hose clamps, chrome acorns for the head bolts and some other knick knacks.

Oh, and I need a Cadillac oil cap in the worst way! Preferably one with no dents. Let me know if you have one you can spare for King of Trucks!!!!

I can get 10' of battery cable for $25. Is welding cable cheaper than that?

I'm leaving in a minute to go see Jeremy at work where he's going to tig up my shifter arm. After that its off to the shop to install that and hook up the shifter cable along with getting the battery cables hooked up.

That only leaves the front clip. I'll have to wait for when I can get some extra hands to get that on. I'm hoping tonight or tomorrow morning. So if everything goes right (and I'm keeping my fingers crossed), I might be driving tomorrow.

Plastic battery boxes , Lokar cables, I don't remember that being traditional and the Iron Lords are usually the traditional police . I would not run it much without fluid in the trans , is the torus full of fluid.

It wouldn't run because there was no gas in it, lol.

The Lokar cable is going to be the only thing new on the whole truck. I really couldn't avoid it. I'm not happy about using it, but at least I'll get to drive it.

We only ran it for a half a minute to see if it would crank and see if the timing was close. I'll be filling up the fluids tonight or tomorrow. And then driving it.

Ok, I got some more stuff done today and the list left to do is that much shorter.

    Here's what I did.
Got the long battery cable and terminals and ran battery cables.
Had to cut the generator bracket as it was too long and ran into the inner fenders.
    Aquired new radiator hoses.
Jeremy tig welded the shifter arm.
    Re-worked the shifter cable bracket.
    Installed shifter arm and cable.
Re-installed the TV arm and cable.
    Put the front clip on.

    Here's what's left to do.
Get new bolts to mount fenders to cab.
    Install radiator hoses.
    Install trans cooler.
Adjust the shifter cable a little.
Get and install PCV fitting on intake and hose.
    Set screws for air cleaners.
Hook up wires for headlights and turn signals.
    Fill trans.
    Fill coolant.
    Add gas.
    Big smokey burnouts.

There's maybe an hours worth of work there, two tops. I had to quite for today. I'll get back on it tonight or tomorrow.

  19. Damn Terd, I can't wait to hear that thing run. It shore is purty. I'm worse than a kid in a candy store when it gets close like you are now.
How are you feeling? If I had known JJ was at the HAMB drags I would like to have met him. Maybe next year you'll have Liberace there.
    Later,
    Dick

We're not traditional police Tommy.....we like to consider ourselves Good Taste police instead. However, we try not to have modern pieces on our cars but if we have to for the time being to get our cars on the road then so be it. Stop Hatin'.

Terd, I'm stoked for you and your street rod!

    JJ,

That candy cane wire wrap website is no more. The guy is selling on Ebay but doesn't have my color. Any way you can send him a question since I can't use Ebay? lol. Search speedway cable wrap, user name is zagar-axe. I need the pink and white, its not in his auction list.

    Love,
    terd
