The Stromberg 97 jets that Dustin brought did not look the same as the jets in my WW's. I am currently trying to source proper jets.

Don't count me out just yet. carbking Jon suggested drilling the center jet out to match the outer ones along with mixture screw turns to see how it would run. Currently, the outer jets are 54 with the center being 49, (he suggests 53 as being optimal). He said if it was still too rich with the 54 jets and screw turning, I could see how smaller jets would run by dropping the float level 1/16". This is not a permanent solution, but would give a good impression how next size smaller jets will run.

But I do have feelers out there to source different jets.

If you look close enough you will see the pearl in the pink that gives it a hint of a purple hue. Also the purple is a candy if I remember right. In order to get that color of purple I think it requires mixing candies. I dont know for sure though.

IT does look good on that car, however I would reconsider it for a truck. With all the curves on that body I think you should stick to a lighter color or atleast do a Watson style panel in a lighter color to accent those curves.

Thanks. I talked to Daytona Parts (where I got the base gaskets) and they have any and every size jet for these carbs you could want. That said, they may not be needed.

Last night at the shop, I assumed for a moment that the carbs had stock jets. We tried starting it with the screws 1/2 turn out as carbking suggested. No run. 1 turn out, no run. 1 1/2 turn. It came to life again and ran pretty well.

Jeremy and I rode down to the gas station to put gas in it. It did pretty good. I turned the tires over a couple of times. The 2-3 shift seemed to be too delayed so we figure we'll go back adjust the tv cable a little and put a vacuum gauge on the carbs to get them "just so".

We adjusted the carbs with the vacuum gauge and then it ran like shit again. But, two mysterious things happened around the same time which may or may not be related. First the fuel pressure gauge was reading zero (not sure when this started but the last time it was run over the weekend it read 3 psi). Second, the throttle cable suddenly had a bunch of slack.

We readjusted the throttle cable to get it right again. It still ran like shit after that. By then it was late so we pretty much stopped there. But I did get to drive it and it was good sayeth the iron lord.

I am closer than ever. Dangerously close to driving it home. The net few days should be muy interesante.

JJ took a video or two. Maybe he'll be sweet enough to put one up...

  12. Nice!!!

JJ, I no longer have the "panties in a bunch" issues. I've found that wearing a thong is the cure. Todays is pink in honor of Terd's first drive.

I understand. Sometimes you just like to feel pretty. And that's ok.

    Thanks!

    This^?

    Happy Anniversary!!!!!

Almost. But its so close its almost over.

I LOVE the way it sounds. These are just shorty striaght pipes coming off the manifolds. The same ones in the pics of the engine out of the truck. I'll be running straight pipes from these to the rear kickstand pipes. It should be a *little* quieter but still sound quite nice! Its pretty loud now with all that noise right under the toeboard, lol.

I got the proper Mallory transformer in the mail today from Bubba addressed to "The Terd Man", haha! I'm going to get that on tomorrow along with some exhaust pipes. I hope it will be running well very soon.

I probably won't offer any more updates til "King of Trucks, The Movie". Don't worry, it won't be long now. Stay tuned...

  20. I'm no expert on your particular carbs but if you're changing main jets to lean/richen the idle and off-idle crusing, I think you're backing up.

    Great thread!

Yep. He's probably playing with his fish honestly. Get that truck going!!! We need it to go pick up my Chrome on Saturday morning unless the chromer's cat had puppies. In that case we'll have to let him slide.

In any case, I need some upholstery supplies so I wouldn't mind getting down there to scoop some of that stuff up if you want to hang.

  24. That's awesome Terd!! The truck sounds great. Really throaty.

It has rained all day. As you may or may not know, Del's truck does not have windshield wipers. Its finally stopped raining but the kids will be home soon. Plans now are for going tomorrow morning to try all that stuff.

It was clear last night and super nice. I worked out in the garage and it was beautiful. I guess I was referring to yesterday but I was raining the the first part of the day.

Yesterday was a day of reflection and contemplation. I was seriously having an internal struggle with what you and I were talking about (number FOUR) late on shop night. For now I have defeated the demons and will continue on the path that has brought me this far. What I want is not unpossible.

    LOL.

I see your talents have gone beyond the mere physical level. Your skills are now at the point of spiritual insight. I have several questions. What is the highest technique you hope to achieve ?
