I saw the first car that they are showing in thier display this summer. Tonight I got the new issue of Rod & Custom in the mail and they did a feature on the latest kit from Total Performance called the King T. Have any of you seen it, and what are your thoughts??????
Kinda cool looking,Total Performance has decent products. It's a kit car as far as I'm concerned. What will happen is a whole bunch of people with minimal skills and equipment will buy these things and eventually sell them off because they "bit off more than they could chew".
I saw one at the northeast nats in Burlington this year. Looked pretty good to me fully ***embled. I liked it. Who knows how much time they spent to make sure their demo car was perfect? I wouldnt be afraid to buy one if that was what I was looking for.
Im thinking about buying one. It's the look I want and the price is right. Plus, I don't have to go get the MIG and torch bottles filled every other week... Any thoughts Uncle Mac
I looked hard at the kit too (and it is a kit). By the time you add in all the extra parts and stuff it would take to finish one of these it's still not cheap. I just wonder why there aren't any finished cars showing up yet. This site might be pretty hard on this type of car but I understand the goal of not grinding and welding a pile of rust into shape. If you get one, start a build thread so we can follow.
I poked around, and it looks like Superior Gl*** Works offers it now. Body only for $1750. A standard '26-'27 body from Speedway starts at $999, so that seems reasonable. -Dave
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Superior was doing these bodies for Total. I haven't seen the King T show up in any of Speedways stuff yet either. Would kind of make sense if they were out sourcing the body.
Bought a T body from them in the early eighties, and they sent me to a gl*** shop in Wolcott, (Ct.) to pick it up. Been a long time since they did it in house, I think. Was a nice body though.
I'll do you one better. I wonder how one would look fitted with full fenders and '27-style wire wheels. How many would even guess it was a phantom? -Dave
Someone should tell them that it would be cool to see them offer a T Coupe, all the T bodies offered are roadsters.
Overall look is excellent. Lot of work went into the basic layout. But...typical of Total Performance, the spindles were reversed, putting the tie rod out front. (but it makes a good bumper for that pretty nose!)
Total Performance (based Wallingford) was sold off to Speedway Motors and King T (based in Florida) has now closed down.
Make that two votes for liking the car , looks reasonable to build should make a nice driver and has the look.........
Always liked the looks of the car. Didn't the wife of someone at Rod & Custom or Street Rodder start a build on one of these? Don't remember seeing it finished. John
Yeah, the articles were in Street Rodder, I think. It was one of the editors wives, and the series was called Hot Rod Girl. -Dave
I thought the Total Performance track T kit was cool when it came out but now I think the Speedway "Tribute T" is way cooler. (My humble opinion, for what it's worth).
