Here's a quote from the link Jiminy posted:

A change in power by a factor of 10 is a 10 dB change in level. A change in power by a factor of two is approximately a 3 dB change. A change in voltage by a factor of 10 is equivalent to a change in power by a factor of 100 and is thus a 20 dB change. A change in voltage ratio by a factor of two is approximately a 6 dB change.

  3. Thanks for sharing guys.

My list of remedial jobs includes; Wheel alignment report
    Brake line clips on diff
LED Bulbs in front turn signals
Split pins in rear axle (I have been gently tightening after each trip while they settle onto the taper)
    Obtain VIN number and attach
    Speedo accuracy (QC gear change)

So I had better get my ass out in the shop and get it done!

    Cheers.

Cool, look forward to seeing it out and about this summer!

According to this document, section 2.9(2), you get a 4db allowance if the exhaust outlet is within 1.5 metres of the engine.

  5. Thanks Simon. I didn't get to looking it up. I was gtoo busy working through everything else on the list. '
In to town now for a wheel alignment.

  7. Wheel alignment done! It was all pretty damn close to spot on! We knocked the toe in back from 8mm to 3mm. I had only set it with a tape and a square at home. One other adjustment I can make next time I have the car in bits to get it perfect, but still well inside tolerances found on a new car.

I grabbed some stainless steel pot scrubbers to stuff in the exhaust to help satisfy the meter.

I also bought some wrap for the primary tubes on the exhaust.

It is hard to get that shit eater grin off the dial though.

  8. woodbox, just curious, who told you you needed a wheel alignment report?

  9. Required for certification. maybe it is just a scratch built thing. I like to have the peace of mind that comes with knowing that everything is pointed in the same direction. I would have done it regardless.

  10. I fully agree, its just my certifier and the vehicle inspector have both said don't need it. I've done mine the old tried and true shed method and i'm confident its good, drives well anyway. I might chuck it over the machine just to get some base line figures.

  11. My wheels get realined every time i drive over 50 mph, with the pot holes in the roads down here :) I think my back dose too!

  12. haha you shouldn't live so far south

  13. Back into it today..........nearly all done!

One at the wheel alignment shop. Thanks Brett

    99kms on the dial already!

  15. Accurate speedo sorted!

Down loaded a free speedo app for my phone. My daughter just left to go to Grandma's house to sew up a protector/holder to mount it on the dash, including a power supply lead.

    Gotta love technology!!!:D:cool::p

  18. Gave the baby its' first bath today. We got caught in the rain twice this week and got a bit grubby!

I have wrapped the primary tubes on one side header and will do the other one after I have made dinner for the gang.
I also found the reason for the thermo switch not turning the fan on. A lose terminal. Sorted.

Daughter has finished the speedo mount for the accurate digital read-out. I will have to test it out after the weekend. I am off to work in the morning. Never mind, it has been a productive week and great roadster weather to boot!
    Roll on Monday!!

    Digging the daughter's handiwork!

Please don't let this thread die as you complete the car! So many threads stop when the car starts being driven, so take lots of pics of your summer adventures and share the fruits of your labor with us suffering the beginning of winter! :D

  21. I plan to continue the thread for sometime to come. I have a road trip planned to half way down the country in Feb. I hope to get a go pro type camera and keep everyone up to date during the trip. The trip wil consist of the car, me, a tent, a toolbox and the open road for 2 weeks. There is a pre 49 National Rod run in Masterton, so I plan to take in a few sights on the way there and back.

Hi.Not what I meant, the one that's in your car?
    Thanks
    Mark.

  23. Sorry mate! Totally missed that one.
That was a swap meet special. I trawled around all frikken day at Kumeu swap meet in the stinkin heat to find it.
I wanted one that read in Km/h and 3 1/8" or 3 1/4" diameter from memory.

Dont tell anyone, but under that Ford logo it says "Czechoslovakia":D At the same swapmeet I found sheets of decal/stickers with Ford logo of varying sizes for $10. I had the guys at the instrument place to put the Ford logo on when they were zeroing the Odometer.

It has a nice smooth mechanism and looks the part.

I think I paid 20 bucks for it.

    Hope that helps.
    Happy hunting.:D

Thanks for letting me know. I was at Bendigo swap, last weekend. But could not find one.
I've got a mph one in the car, which I can get converted. $200! I have tried the app,but it's hard to see in bright sun light. My car is (mgb roadster) I'am just about to be kicked off this site!
    Cheers

  25. I bought a mph/kph converter on our local online auction site a couple of years ago. I only really got it for its curiosity value. But I may have a job for it one day. It is just a reduction/step-up unit with the correct ratios.
    Good luck.

  26. I stuffed the baffles, that I made for the exhausts, with stainless steel pot scrubbers and this has made a good difference to the sound levels. Hopefully it will be enough to satisfy.
I am waiting for a call from the certifier so I can go in to see him to do the final check.
    Frustrating!............:(

How about putting your fancy speedo to another use and downloading a decibel meter app!

Dunno how accurate they are, but should be good enough to do a before and after comparison and see how much difference your changes are making.

  28. Thanks for that Simon, Did as you suggested and I got 85db @ or above 2000rpm. I couldn't really get it to go above 90db...........so I thought......Hmmmm I will check the lawn mower..........85db!
    Maybe the angle grinder.........85db!

So I pulled the muffling out of the pipes on the car...........................You guessed it..........85db!!!!!

yelling at the phone as loud as you can..........85db!

I think the microphone on the phone can only handle............yup......85db!!

  29. So I downloaded another one..........only went up to 80db!!!!!
    AAaaarrrrrrgggh!

  30. haha would loved to have seen that:D
