So at long last, the Koupe has found its way out to Vintage Metal in yucaipa so that norm (chopped50ford) and crew can work their magic on the bumps and bruises this poor little piggie has suffered.

I went out and scored a set or replacement quarters from Rich (I partout chevys!!!) and we are ready to rock and roll!!!!

    pics to follow!

What got done yesterday? I saw you guys masking and sanding a little. More primer?

  10. I wanted to drop an update on what were doing and where we are. Here at Vintage Metal, we appreciate the opportunity to help AlteredPilot and look forward to helping others down the road.

Stripped the body to coat in epoxy primer to help save the metal while working on it.

After stripping it down, we body worked the front fenders, top of the decklid, upper decklid panel and areas around the rear windows and the roof top. We pulled the glass to make sure the window channel was clean and free of old paint so the new paint would flow nicely under the glass. I have always disliked the look of masked rubber, I suggested it to AP and out they came!

Epoxy is down, moving it to the metal working area.

We pulled to doors, they needed lower skin patches and the bottoms were rusty real bad like swiss cheese. So I picked up the phone to let AP know of the new issues, A go ahead approval was given so we started to cut out the old metal and started replacing with new.

The decklid had rot on the lower edge. We decided, for the sake of productivity to make and replace the whole lip.

The doors should be getting wrapped up today, next in line would be the quarter panel repairs for each side. Some new original panels were cut from another car to use.

    Door Work.

    Stay tuned for more updates!

What the hell, I totally missed this thread. Just spent the last half hour reading through it...okay, mostly looking at the picures. Awesome work per usual Ian and those tail lights are great. Love the lead work too.

I'm going to have to start excavating my Bondo Mobile some day!

  13. Looking GOod norm!!!!

  14. Thanks Mitch...means alot! Quarter Panels, some body work....Oh, and shrink the hood and were finished!

  15. Metal work is completed. All that is left, is shrinking the hood from the oil canning it has, body work....then off to Alteredpilot for paint.

Motorama is just around the corner!!! :D

  21. I know!!!! kinda reminds me of this rat rod DVD i bought a coupe of years ago... where this guy crashes to get some kind of t-bucket ready for a show.... :)

  22. Very, very, VERY cool. Tasteful and understated, just like how I like 'em.

    Did I mention that's it's VERY COOL?

  23. Update time!!!!

She's home and we're in the race.
Norm and the guys at vintage metal did a bang up job of getting the sheet metal all squared away...
had to reskin both doors, plus fix the swiss cheese in the door bottoms, both rear quarters needed major work, repair the bottom few inches of the decklid, repair a big depression in the hood, and basically massage the rest of the car. it took a little longer than i had hoped, but if you're going to do it, do it right. its all done now and i'm happy to have it home.

Gonna spend the next two weeks in paint. chrome and stainless is out and we'll spend the last week installing chrome, stainless and rubber. should be a hoot....

Just after we rolled it off the tow truck...

set up in my makeshift spray booth. (BTW a product called Zip Wall Spring Loaded Poles makes this a dream come true)

    Rhapsody in primer...

i'll post updates as i move along.
the plan for this long weekend is to spend thursday nite blocking the car, putting the car in color on saturday, shooting flames on sunday, maybe clear. clear for sure on monday...

    wish me luck!
