So I am missing the knob (handle) for the cowl vent on my '47.
I suppose I could go find the "right" one, but where's the FUN in that!

Out comes the bar stock, a minute or two on the lathe, few minutes on the mill to add a "keyway", weld in a "key" and I got a pretty good start:

What you can't see are the two set screws I used to keep the key UP away from the bottom of my slot. Next back to the lathe and it's nearly done:

Should hold better than the (I assume plastic stocker).
Probably ought to paint it to match the dash.

Nice and clean, simple yet subtle. I had the one in my 46 Olds re-popped when he did the window regulators and ashtray buttons

  3. Nice 'trick' with the keyway!!

    You do nice work.

I might have a use for that idea too.

OK so I definitely still need to find the right color - this was as close as I had laying around - not so good - I'll do better. In the meantime it feels pretty good! DSC00069.JPG
    Thanks Unkl Ian!
