You fellas remember the offer from John B and our chance to change KOA shows to our liking? Well, it's coming... Heres the deal KOA is having a show in Florence, KY on June 4, 5, & 6. This show is our opportunity to change the KOA to suit our needs, to make the shows more to our liking, and to make a difference. John has agreed to give all HAMBers $5.00 off the price of admission with only one condition you must come back to the HAMB and report your findings. They want honest and objective (maybe even brutal?) feedback on how they can make their shows better and more suitable to what guys like us want in a show. Pretty rad concept when you think about it This isnt a HAMB commercial spot for KOA either. The HAMB is not making any money off this deal and KOA is prolly gonna lose a bit, but it will all be worth it in the end if we can get these promoters on the right track. So, what do you think? Is this the right show for this idea? Are you guys interested at all? Let us have it And if everything looks like it is on the up and up, I will get with John and iron out the details with the $5 coupon and what not
I'd rather pay the regular rate and see my 5 bucks go to the HAMB or into a donation. I mean if you are going on a road trip to a car show a 5 dollar savings isn't going to be a pimple on your**** compared to hotel costs, food and gas etc.. It's a nice gesture, but I doubt that it attracts HAMBers because it's a good deal. They should make it our option - $5 off or donation. I'd love to go, it'd be a big hustle to get my car right. Maybe I will try, just to help them figure it out. I gotta say - I'm easy to please, any show with more than two cars is a hit to me..... You know we could just start******ing about shows right now though- we're that good, lol.
I am planning on attending. It sounds like a good time and a good opportunity to express our thoughts and opinions to an audience that wants our feedback. I am going to round up some local guys and see how it goes.
That's my home town, where I grew up. In the past the show has been pretty small, and alot on the lame side. Hopefully it's grown during the two years I've been away in Texas. That whole area of the country in general has been slow and few and far between on all the real hot rod stuff.
When we first came up with this idea a while back, I offered to just charge the usual entry fee of $25 and give a $5 dollar donation to the HAMB. Ryan declined the offer. He wants to keep this as honest as possible. If there's no gain for the HAMB , you all will be more willing to be honest. We need to change some things. Thats the whole point of this offer. So we need unrestrained opinions. I also know that a five dollar discount isn't much. So let's call it a 20% discount. Does that sound better? We're still open to suggestions about activities.
John, you sound like a politician with your 20 percent off!!! I prefer to call it the after hour liquid entertainment funds.... But seriously, we hit the show last year and it has great potential. We plan on bein' there this year as well, hockin' mags and takin' pics... Stitch
Ryan, I really want to go but looks like the 300 won't be on the road yet. Or if so just barely. Gonna have to hitch a ride with someone. Anyone passing by this way?
John B, I put on the HOTROD-A-RAMA here in Tacoma, Wa. I want to make it more custom car orientated like Paso. I would be willing to work with the KOA here in the Northwest if ya want to. Contact me soon if your interested. Dale( Go to www.hotrodarama.com for event info and my number)
I've never been to a KOA show since the drive is a little brutal for me, although I would love to attend some time time in the future .But I am curious (since all I get are pics ) what are the problems with these shows.Just curious . thanx . swaZZie
[ QUOTE ] But I am curious (since all I get are pics ) what are the problems with these shows.Just curious . thanx . swaZZie [/ QUOTE ] Swazzie, the problems vary depending on who you ask. Some don't like the entertainment we line up. The list could go on and on. I'm sure anyone who puts on a show, knows what I'm talking about. One person said the show was lame, well I'll respond by saying, you get out of it what you put into it. As for the entertainment, it's kind of unrealistic for anyone to expect us to book an certain type of act just to fulfill the wishes of a couple people. Once we see that we're getting some support from that crowd then we'll do our best to keep them happy. A couple years back we heard the complaint that we didn't have a rockabilly band, so we booked one. Damn good band at that. The complainers didn't even show up to watch them play. I'd love to have that band back but not until we see that it's going to be appreciated. While we all do this for fun, we have to be realistic that these events have to at least pay for themselves.
Curbspeed, you got my attention. I just have to contact the money man. Jim Hibbs is the boss and those things are up to him. I'm just a grunt trying to make things better. I'll be in contact with him soon and will advice him to get with you. Be patient young Jedi .
I will be there, although I don't know if I'll have my '63 Chrysler on the road by then (teaser pics to come soon). For those of you who have not been to the show , there are 6 pages of pics on my site from the 2001 double date http://www.geocities.com/hotrodder1938/KOADD01.html
Thankyou John for your response. I have been working in the restaurant industry for some twenty years now and I must say that this is the first time I have seen the problematic trajectory of what I dismissed as my hobby in such close relation to what it is that I do . It can be a harrowing experience , to say the least , to try to please everyone in any sector of entertainment and I'm certain , because of the passions that may belie what others consider to be the true vision of a car show , that you have to juggle your options quite often. I am however , grateful for your insight and wish you the best of luck in your endeavor here. I know from what I have read among the posts on this board that you are dealing with a stratification of some of the most diverse backgrounds of people that I have ever encountered in observing groups of potential proponets in the success of anything objective geared toward bringing people together. Maybe I'm being a little too tech****gish here but I find it interesting that what I always considered to be my own very selfish need is also that important to so many others . wow , Ryan must be cursed with blessings . Thanx for your time. swaZZie P.S. Ryan if you read this . I got that book on the salt flats . . .*****in ay!
John, I will be patient. Have the powers that be get in touch with me. I gotta few ideas kickin' around in this old Swedish hard head of mine.
Reading my PMs and the posts here I see that some of you want to come but don't have your ride ready yet. Not to worry you'll be taken care of as well. Contact me and I'll give you the details.
I'll be there I know my car wont even be close to being done but such is life maybe by october it will be, oh well see ya there
It's getting closer and I want to make sure everyone gets their chance to attend and get the discount. So if you're coming let me know . Either with a PM here on with an email to lowand77@yahoo.com If you're not bringing a vehicle but coming anyway. Let me know as well and I'll do my best to take care of you at the front gate.
Actually the show is in Burlington at the Boone County Fairgrounds. Seems people refer to it as the Florence/Burlington area. The host hotel (Amerisuites) is in Florence though. Here's how to get to the show from the north. Take I-75 south to Exit # 181 , This will bring you to KY 18 Take it west approximately 4.5 miles to Burlington, Turn right onto Idlewild Rd. and go a half mile or so. You can't miss the fairgrounds. The host hotel info - Amerisuites, 300 Meijer Drive , Florence,Ky. 41042 (859) 647-1170

[/ QUOTE ] I forgot to add, there's a model car contest on saturday. Starts at 10 or 11 I think. There's no entry fee so bring some plastic with you. I'm a sponsor and I may create my own award. Just depends if I have time in the shop after I get my orders done.
If anyone is coming to the show this weekend you may want to hit the Southgate House either Friday or Saturday night. Two local rockabilly bands are playing. The Stardevils play Friday night around 10:00 pm and they have a couple of guest bands as well. (The Stardevils played VLV) Jerry King and the Rivertown Ramblers play Saturday night. Both bands are excellent. Stop by and see me this weeknd if you are interested and I can give you directions. I will have my 39 ford there. It looks like the weather will be great Friday and Saturday. See you there, Erik
