I'm working on a project and need some ideas of what you think is
the koolest "Wichita Style" Kustom. I have a good idea of the 1980's
to current year would be but how about the fifties and early sixties?

    Thanks in advance,

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

    Hey Malcom,

Don't tell McPhail but I like his '56 better than his '50. I would consider that
as a current build. I'm looking for Sleds that were around when the Koffin was
    kruzin Wichita.

    Thanks for the input.

    Happy Trails,

Well, the "Lil Coffin" is the coolest thing that ever rolled out of Doodah, but Starbird butched it up.

What car are you gong to start with?

It's hard to name just one, for me the early lil coffin 1st design,(stuckeys) then it would have to be electra for the show cars. but if your talkin drivers it would have to include ,invicta the 59 buick of starbirds, the crimson skull (duberstiens) and debutante, and lets not forget johnie hammond 58 impala! To me Hammonds car is the epidomy of wichita style, nice rake not over styled for the sake of change, some things don't need changing, bullet taillights, shaved handles and A RAKE !!! watch out wichita style is coming back, ever seen a caddy on a rake ? Swivle seats and of 'course bullets.

We've yet to see pics of your caddy... If you are hinting at what we'll be seeing soon (hopefully), I can't wait to see it!

That is what I was looking for I forgot all about that one. Thanks for the pics I was needing a picture of sled to go along with my Stuckey version of the Lil Koffin.

I found this picture of the Fink'd up Caddy from the DOTD. Hopefully sometime in November I'll slide up there to check it out......

Hammonds '58 Impala!! I forgot all about it! That will have to be included. Mentioning Hammonds Impala, joggled something loose in my brain. Below is a list of others that should be on the list.

The blue Chopped '58 Chevy rag top that I thought was built in the Wichita area I forgot the builders name.

    Harness '59 Elcamino

Doug Reeds Olds fastback AKA "Toad"

Stuckys version of the king of Mercs.

'55 Sectioned Buick One of my all time favorite kustoms.
(I have a dream owning it someday......)

Also this '56 Plymouth is way too kool.....

    Thanks for the help.

MICK The 58 ragtop was built by ronnie dunham he also did the 59 that night prowlers gary owns now. Harness' cars are very wichita style , prolly the top right now and back into the 80's. but his stuff wasn't cruzin the streets when the lil coffin was, it was more in the early to mid 80's when hub built his 59 and 60. As was stuckeys king of mercs, debuted in 84 at the first merc duece. You are welcome to come check out the caddy anytime, just call a day or so before so I will for sure be here. jeff

I don't know who owned it, but there was a mild custom '50-'51 Fleetline that was around in the 60's. It had assemetric styling. Three oval taillights on one side with an offset peak running down the decklid. Got some mag coverage as i remember. Was in a show in Enid when I was just a punk kid (as opposed to a punk adult). Deep blue or purple as I recall. One of the first cars that really wowed me as a youngster.

Ronnie Dunham.... Yes, that was the kats name that built some wild stuff.
Shame he is not with us anymore.

Did he build anymore cars then the two that you mentioned?

  18. Alrite Mick, who gets your top pic for the 1980's to current year? I'm going with Hubs Cinnamon Buick and I tell him that everytime I see him! I would drool all over that blue 58 convert everytime I saw it at Ft Smith. Finks 57 Cad will top my list when its finished though....Im real one-sided when it comes to 57 Eldos, I just cant bring myself to cut mine!

  21. I'm with ya on Hub's Buick....what I wouldn't give to have that in my garage! Well, ok, it wouldn's spend much time there, I'd be driving the wheels off it.

I always loved Ronnie's chevy, too. I kick myself nearly everyday for passing on it when I saw it for $7500 at Ft. Smith in the early 90's....of course it could have just as easily been a million considering my financial state at the time. ;)

You touched the sectioned Buick?? Another reason to wish I was you. I know,
I don't have a life. When the Buick was at Salina it just locked me up. I've
seen more bad section jobs out there then good ones. The Buick has to rate
up there with the best of them. One of these days I hope to own it.

Titus Green Mercury forgot all about it. What a wild sled done in a typical
Titus form. Not afraid to do something wild and trying new ideas. One of the
reasons that I have a love for kustoms is coming up with something that no
    one has done.

I wonder what happened to the Merc????

    Happy Trails,
