well, I’m not exactly a wealth of knowledge on the subject but what I do on my dragster and helmets and stuff I’ve painted is I use the 3 inch tape to make straight lines, it’s easier to lay straight cause it doesn’t like to curve and has wrinkles if it curves. then I lay fine line next to it to to keep a sharp edge. My problem is consistency making the angles the same. I think next time I do a lay out I’m going to bolt 2 paint sticks together to use as a protractor. To match the sides. I also sometimes use a stabilo pencil to make small Marks and I’ll measure and Mark with the stabilo but, stabilo doesn’t like to wipe off of primer so I only use it on something that’s been cleared and sanded.
Idk if that’s much help though.

I just pull tape long distances if possible. I have been doing custom paint since I was 14 using fineline tape to do the masking. It’s not too bad to make straight lines if you just start in one spot and pull it straight before before sticking it down. Not sure if that makes any sense, but is how I try to do it. I haven’t done scallops in several years, but have done lots of flames. Don’t need any straight lines in flames.

Thanks guys for the tips. I've been doing most of these already but am mostly struggling with the shapes of the scallops. My engineering background says there is a mathematical calculation for how long, wide, inner/outer curve dimensions and it really isn't playing out that way. It has been more of lay the tape down and look, pull it up and try it again until it looks right.

I'm struggling with the inner scallop layout. Part of me says the tail is too short. Part of me says the layout needs to go in a different direction to better match the outer stripe. Thoughts?

I dig it. I like how the center line sort of flows into the other line. My .02

I fixed what was throwing my eye off. The outer edge of the scallop needed to be parallel to the outer edge of the center stripe. Also needed to be a tad longer. Next step is to get it masked and painted. 20230920_171944.jpg 20230920_171956.jpg 20230920_172007.jpg

Yep, I agree with the lines needing to be parallel like you changed it to. That made a big difference.

Amazing what a few rattle cans and rolls of tape can do for the overall look of a car. 20230923_133300.jpg 20230923_133325.jpg 20230923_133357.jpg

Nothing new. Just back from a long late afternoon drive and thought the cherry tree in my driveway made a good backdrop.

Turns out - replacing the driver's side door hinge pins makes a WORLD of difference in how it closes.
The old upper on the left and lower on the right. No slop in the hinge afterwards and the door closes solidly. 20240407_135812.jpg

And a video of it closing. A little harder than needed but I shut it with my foot while holding the camera still

The Hotrod Reverend inspired me to stick my GoPro under my car for a cool video. This proves that I have the Kustomline as low as you can go and still drive it without airbags.

So, what is the gold colored object seen bouncing around at the top right of the picture? That car would not do the roads around here this year, it is the year of the pothole!

It is the front sway bar bushing. I noticed that too when I first viewed the video and checked on it. It is most definitely bolted down. My GoPro mount is a long plastic arm that is more flexible than the metal setup the Hotrod Rev used for his new rear shock video. I have the camera set to image stability but I suspect it is only applying to images at the center of the screen

Thanks! They are the KYB gas adjust shocks - KG4503. Pretty sure they were the recommended ones in the sticky for lowered cars
