My friends are on my case to have a car on the road for this summer and rightfully so. I held a yard sale of my extra T stuff to help finance the project which was amazingly successful in clearing out some room. I've elected to take 1 hour a night to work on mine after the shop closes. My first chore is to narrow the '39 dash to fit in the 'bucket. I cut the dash into 11 pieces, not counting the louvers, to get the proportion right. After welding it back together the effect is excellent. For the era I'm after, perfect.

I'm putting the louvers back in the center and then fitting to the T shell. A little metalworking and a trip to the blast cabinet and it will be ready for couple coats of "high build" and on to fitting up the inner body structure of 1x1 tubing to open the doors and hold everything in place.

Feels good to be back on this!

You can't imagine how many guys have been bugging me to get back to work on this. Last year I don't think I made it to any car shows at all, let alone with a car of my own. Fryguy, Homemadehardtop57, Kess, and everybody else have become big inspirations to fit this in. You wouldn't believe how much stuff I've collected for this build over the last 6 mo. or so. Also there are a ton of "T" threads out there including Andersens roadster that is just eating at me. I'll be posting regularly again.

Glad to see you're back on it. Honestly, I figured you'd finished it and were driving it since I hadn't seen anything more. You know you DO work pretty quickly!

I put it on hold when I got waaaaay behind in the shop. I was really out of time after my best friend and a fellow who lived with Rose and I for the last 25 years or so p***ed of cancer. You have no idea of what it takes when someone you care about goes through that. Pete died in April and I was starting to get back on track when Rose had a m***ive heart attack and had quadruple byp***, aneurism and reconstructive heart surgery. We weren't sure she was going to make it for a bit there but she's back in action and better than ever. Without her, everything else would be mute point. So much for last summer!

I'm knocking out the last of my "deferred" work and need to get some stuff in the shop for March or so, but I'm digging in on the roadster again. During the interim I was able to pick up some great components for the build and because it is a relatively budget build to start with, I can do some cool stuff that I couldn't do if I was building a deuce or something.

Glad to see your making progress on yours as well. Looking great as usual! I wish I was to the sanding the frame part! I still need to get out of the shop and pick up some parts I've had on hold for just about forever and I also just remembered I need to shoot a MO out for some drums I talked to a fellow about.

Sorry to hear about your friend. My dad, my best friend, p***ed away 25 months ago. I know JUST how it affects you.

Glad to hear Rose is doing well!

Keep it up Koz. That's going to be a very cool T. Hopefully they'll make a resurgence and we'll see more of them. That Olds motor is going to be a knockout

I'm sure hoping so! I agree, the Olds, (which I scored from Fryguy), is going to be the thing that seperates it from the pack along with about a dozen other things that are just going to be so "Old Timey". The hardest part is going to be making it look like a steel roadster, which I am convinced I can.

By the way, making good progress on yours as well!

I'm glad you're back on this again and Rose is doing well, but darn it Koz, how many times am I going to have to trip over your tires before you come get them! That is if you even still want them haha.

I know, I know..... I'm trying to get everything tied up here. I'll give you a shout and we'll get together. Anything else you might need if I'm coming up. Since I didn't even get my pickup home yet, you think they'll fit in the trunk of Roses car?

They should fit, they're pretty small. I measured them real quick and they're about 26" high. I've been hunting some different small parts for the roadster like rear hubs and the front of an early ford 3 spd where the throw out bearing rides, for some reason mine is broke. I've been so focused on getting it ready to run at the jalopy showdown everything's been a blur

Just checked and I don't have either item. Sorry! I could get them from Pete and bring them along if you like.

Oh man that would be great!!! If he happened to have a 4.5 inch early ford steel wheel I also need one of those haha. Not trying to give you a huge list of parts but I was having trouble getting a few odd ball parts. I'll give you a good break on the tires and anything else you may need up here.

I'll see what I can get from him and get back to you.

Last night I took an hour and a half and trimmed the body rail and removed what was left of the channeled floor. To get the seating position I need I have to get myself in there as low as possible. The car doesn't set that low but I need to see through the windshield as opposed to over it where so many buckets end up. As soon as I have a bay set up for a ch***is I'll throw this one on for a night and lay a blind Z in right behind the radius rod hangers to compensate for the lost channel. This will also put my rearend at the right spot without any spring spacers. Last night was a lot of layout time!

Also this was the first time I could sit in the body with the dash in. The look is perfect for what I'm after. I also did a bit of templating, and with the body setting where it is I can fab a full steel floor and rivet/bond it into the body along with a panel behind the seats and a steel firewall and lace strip along the cowl. This will accept the hood side panels and bury the mechanicals for the steering. It will also give me a sloped foot board like a Model "A" which is infinitely more comfortable on the road.

The Z in the frame also allows the offset required to set my Ansen style pedals into the proper foot position and tie a bellcrank under the floorboards and between the frame rails to the MC/clutch. A little layout time is always worth it!

I have some 39 Ford Three speeds laying around. One has a cracked bellhousing but all the other parts are good. If you need anything off it, let me know I can bring that stuff to Koz's.

Haven't done anything as I've been working 12 hr. days in the shop. Still in catch up mode. I need to give you a call about a list of things including the Buick gl***. As soon as I get a breather here I'll be back on it, (the roadster).

I toyed with ditching it to just get it off my plate but then I'll just have to start all over. Pretty sure if I do I'll never get around to having one of my own again. I was pleased to see the old roadster come back to Ryan. I'm sure he'll love it.

    Anyway, back to the pit.

As an update here!!!!! The torch on this project has been p***ed to Crazybillybob on here. He is going to finish the car up much in the same way I was planning it. A new thread will be up soon and detail the final out on this really sweet little roadster. I'm so happy somebody with the time and resources to see the project through stepped up.

Best of luck buddy. I'll be watching!

Keeps looking slimmer all the time. But I am supplying some nice semi finished projects to guys! I'm sure Bruce will finish this one nicely. I know he wants to make the ROG in the Fall. It seems I everytime I get one half way together somebody smells money and I end up selling it to settle up on something. I need to clear the shop out here and get some room before I start another. There are just too many projects here that produce no income. I reality, it would be better to let the place set empty.

Koz - WTF    ?!?!

At this rate , I'LL be driving MINE around before YOU ! I can see maybe back-burnering a project for a while till time/life frees up , but starting from fresh over & over really ****s for you . I thought you were really gonna get to drive this one :( . You need to finish one to drive around & show off your talents .

I certainly get the business aspect of it. It's not always easy for the owner, but the business itself has no feelings. Often the business needs dictate the direction we take with no regard for our happiness. Being a grown up ****s.

The biggest problem I have is that my shop is just too damn small. I need every inch to make a living and over the past few years my working capital has gotten tight, just like everybody else. I can't afford to let stuff sit and my builds sometime get sacrificed to fund other projects until I can get them out the door. I have a lot of really good clients and I'm not about to give up. The last few years have been brutal on everyone, not only hot rod shops. I have no shortage of stuff and it only takes me about two or three days to have a ch***is together. I still have my Olds, which is saved for the next car.

I haven't been posting a lot of my work lately but I'm working 10-12, 7days so there is a lot of stuff going out of here.

So, the ***le of this thread changes. Koz is no longer building a modified :(

That's too bad, it would have been nice to see it finished and driven by the builder.

If it came out anything like that 34 for Kess it would have been nice.

I get a lot of satisfaction seeing people driving and enjoying things I've had a hand in. In many ways as much if not more than driving them myself. This little shop is responsible for some pretty cool stuff. I don't take a lot of pics or promote much but a lot of the stuff out of here is really interesting and they are always sweet drivers that will bring you home all the time. What more do you need out of a profession, (maybe just a nice little roadster to hop in on a Saturday night). Next ones already in the works.

I've kept my Olds as a seed for the next one. As I progress on it I'll post up. The first thing I need to do is fab the new intake for 4x2 which I'll be putting together in a week or so. I'm going to attempt my first Tech thread with it.

We are in the same small shop living hell sir... I too have the same problem with getting personal stuff done, only mine comes in the form of guys picking up their louver projects and casually asking "how much?". But either or, my place is tiny too, and every square foot of floor space has to generate SOME form of income, and I've been living the same tight money nightmare for the last couple of years. It never helps, but don't feel alone....
