Sounds to me like maybe you got a bum can , which I understand is not too uncommon :( .
I've wanted to try this stuff for some time now , so I shot some gold glitter blast stuff last week on a test peice (aka car part ;) ) . It laid on pretty darn heavy , with a TON of flake (I base coated with a regular yellow Krylon rattle can to make coverage easier) . So much flake that it's taken a TON of clear to cover it to a smooth feel . I used a Krylon crystal clear rattle can paint to cover it with a few coats , but didn't make much headway as far as smoothing out over the flake , so I dug out my spray gun & shot some Dupli-Color "Body Shop" clear over it , and that worked better . All of this stuff I used seemed to work OK together , no lifting , bubbling or anything weird . I'll have to shoot a pic & post it .

You need to shake the shit out of it before you shoot it and shake it when you spray it

I don't know if it would help in this case or not but when I rattle can anything I put the can in the sun or in front of a spot light to heat it up a bit.

Don't leave it too long = kaboom.

I got 3 cans ( 1 each of Green , Red and Orange ) and had the same issues.
Just keeps on spraying, nasty crap !!! Nozzle will not seal off. Went to Krylons web site and sent a message to customer services and got a reply requesting the lot and batch numbers off of the cans ( these numbers were totally illegibable with the ink marking system ) . They were gonna send me "replacement cans " . Got mine from Hobby Lobby and @ $7.99 per can you think it would be a better product. 1 bad can , yeah, but 3 bad cans and 3 different colors !

  6. yeah, i got a shitty can, that's all. i bought some other cans with it, tested them on a license plate, looked great! just next time i'm ordering this stuff online, cause at eight bucks a can, no way, they sell it online in the regular size cans for five

ALSO, i was bummin' around at the lowe's this weekend and found VALSPAR flake! it's awesome! but saddly it's either discontinued or seasonal cause it was the last two cans on the sale rack, darn, but i'm SO GLAD i found a legit flake paint. by the way, thanks for the help!

  7. oh yeah, and if you guys are lookin' for a good clear they make a sealer for the flake too, you probably knew this, but just sayin' anyway...

Good results. It's nice to see something worth the money.
