definitely cool, I've found that Krylon primer takes quite a bit of abuse on tires, doesn't yellow, has little cracking over time (definitely not noticeable over a couple feet) and touches up easy as well. And of course whites always looks better :D

lookin' like you saved a couple bucks on your paintjob there Sparky, maybe you shoulda took some Krylon white to YOUR "'Ol Skool Rod"! Talk about the pot callin the kettle black, whitewalls are whitewalls, regardless of material. Sorry we ain't all got $1,000 for motherf-in bias repros!

  8. I've had more luck with painting them then using portawalls. Looks good. I did it on a 64 chevy truck once and it held up better than the portawalls that came apart on the e-way.

wow, I never would have thought paint could hold up on a tire. I'm curious too, what kind of Krylon white? primer?

your car looks great, makes a huge difference.

Why not save money on something like this, that is just for looks anyway and spend that cash on something like speed parts for your motor

If you guys are payin $1000.00 dollers for white walls ... YER NUTS !!

The term 'OL SKOOL' isnt in my vocabulary ...

The rear tires are Vintage Pie Crust Ingelwood Slicks ..

The doors dont match cus they were on the car when the Old Man who found it in an Orchard in 1968 and never changed them ..

If you have the $$ to build a car, and yer a Hot Rodder, You should be able to get some sort of deal on the tires you want.. (swap meets, E-Gay, etc)

I know inginuity is the basis of Hot Rodding, But C'mon, there is a fine line between Right & Wrong .... and painting yer tires is just plain WRONG !!

And to the 2 guys bashin my Ford .... post a pic of your fine rides .. or are ya scared ??

sure, I'll bite, and this is WITH painted whitewalls!!!!:

GRAND TOTAL, scratch built, brand new motor, $8,500 Add another $1k for wheels/tires!

I think it's silly saying to somebody with a fine ride that painting whitewalls just isn't cool. Says who? The guy with rusty header pipes? The same could be said for not painting your car.
You talk about the rockabilly rat rod **** out of hand- your car fits the bill for Ol Skool Rodz, so there's those that would say your car is out of hand! See the connection?

I know you put a LOT of work into your car, and I like it, but you see how somebody who's opinion you don't agree with coming out the blue offends you? I think Jim's T is cool, painted whitewalls or not, but I don't consider myself an authority on rodding, much the same as I wouldn't consider you one, sorry but its true.

The tires and wheels on our bucket cost $250, and another $6 for paint, rather than the $600 just for the tires, then you add tubes and wheels, and shipping, it all adds up!

Guys have been painting white walls since the 50's. The Krylon for plastic is a proven way to paint on whitewalls. If all your trying to do is stir up something DON'T POST! What the **** good is it, if you don't like it don't do it! And seeing how Jim has been here since 2001 I don't think he's a rockabilly old skewl fool.....

    Jim,
    A few questions;
---Did you remove the tires from the wheels to paint them?
---What did you use for a template, if anything?
---Did you scuff the tires first?
---Is that a 4 car garage at your house!!?? Coool!!!

ah come on, that's a little harsh. I decided against spider webs, I'm going with the Pabst themed car

And you know I like your car, I just wanted you to be able to take it if you dish it out. You haven't ripped my car yet, I know I deserve it :D

Personally i don't think it's cool to blast someone on here like this, There are very few folks on here who can claim to be an athority on anything related to the board, VERY FEW. And it is especially uncool when they've been active on this board for 4 years, 8 months... last time I looked it seems as though you've only been active here for 8 months (I could be wrong, I know) I mean, I always respect MY elders... just a thought...

I dig the painted white, how wide is the stripe? Can we see some detail pics please when you get a chance?

  24. I've seen De Soto's rust bucket and it is a well put together ride...He does have his opinions ( and anger management issues ....hahahaha).....Either way he knows his **** and even though he may not have been on this board for X amout of time he still knows his ****....

Personally I like the way it looks and if your pocket book states you have to paint it well then there is nothing anyone should say...besides white walls are just white pigment ( paint/dye) rubber.... Personally I would have done the shaving bit on the tires....

I find it hard that you guys are spending that kinda money ( $1000.00) on tires....you need to look around a bit more.....

I would have agreed with you---years ago when the only paint available was pure ****. Now, the Krylon does a good job and holds up. My Coker WWWs were over $600 and thats without mounting or balancing.

I wont pay that kind of money EVER again for inferior bias ply tires that are only good for about 20,000 miles, but I may Krylon some tires if I want to

I left the post short because i didn't think it needed too much detail.
I painted the tires with Krylon"FUSION" paint, there was about 50 posts on here over the last year or 2 about it for WWW.( must have been before Jan.06!!).
I myself ran a post last week asking about it.The results & feed back seemed good so i did it.
    It cost me under $5!!
I left the tires on the car, raised it up, cleaned the tire with brakekleen & windex , masked it off & sprayed it.It came out good, a little bit of fish eye'n but nothing to worry about.
It was easy & looks good.
OK thats the technical post part of this post now i'll deal with "De Soto"
THIS BOARD IS TO HELP EACH OTHER!!
I don't claim to have a "rat rod" Or be "Ol skool". My car is my car, if you don't like what i did "STFU", no one cares about a negitive remark, go on OPRAH if ya want to ***** or complain. If you don't think its a good idea say" I don't think its a good idea" I myself don't give a **** if you like it or think its a good idea, its not something i just thought up, its been around.
I myself can't afford $600-1000 for tires, sorry!!
This is the second time in about 2weeks that a "short timer" or "newbie" opened there mouth foolishly!!
    Please think before you type!!!

Jim- I think it looks really good.

    You Rock-a-Silly FOO!!!!

    LMAO, drama...

  29. I said it once and I'll say it again post count and time on the HAMB is not an indication of skills or knowledge.....

De Soto comes off harsh but hs is kinda cool and he knows his stuff when it comes to cars and stuff (especially Hemi's and "the way they used to do it). he is just a little rough around the edges....I ain't defending him (well maybe I am) but I have met him a couple of times and have seen his car a bunch...he's an ***...Hell I have computer rumbled with him a couple of times...he still knows his ****

I agree with you that this board is tohelp each other.....he is the dude that cruises by and says WTF did you do to your car....everyone else likes it but he doesn't so he gives you ****....You have friends like that coming by your garage at home and now you have that here....

but then again I may not know **** cause I haven't been around as much as some of you guys....
