I had one, but I sold it. Changed my mind. Can you get one for power brakes? I thought they were only offered in manual brake versions? Welp, after looking at your link, I guess they do offer it. My only drawback was how to service the mc under the dash. I would be afraid it could get messy.

  3. I put the master cylinder under the dash on my '40. I used a '63 Dodge car pedal assy, modified it and mounted the master cylinder in reverse. I have only had to add fluid twice, but it really wasn't a big deal. Also, a lot of late '70's early '80's Dodge vans had a 90 degree adapter under the hood. A buddy of mine used one under the dash of his '66 Dart pro street car. They do look a little bulky though. Gene.

I made my own. About the only thing I had to figure out was making a bulkhead fitting to bring the brake and clutch lines through the firewall.

I used one in my 37 Chevy coupe, worked like a charm. Mine was the non power version but it did have the hydraulic clutch.

  6. They work. They are a copy of a 70s Mopar Van pedal assembly. You can use one of those if you have a salvage yard with them. Seems like I still see those vans and minihomes all over the place

  9. Going from memory, but I think the Chevy Astro vans also used a 90 degree master cyl mounting?

    I have used several.

They are well made, and work well.

I use one in my 27 tub. The master cylinder is under the cowl door for the gas tank.

Thanks guys, for the information and help. I appreciate it and this has really helped me. Currently the car has this:
(which I believe uses a 60's Chevy Truck (of some sort) small master cylinder and hydraulic clutch combo).

Guys, as I mentioned before, thanks very much. Anybody know what, specific Vans these were in. Wondering if I can go to a junk yard and find the clutch/brake assembly.

  14. '70s Dodge vans used this type setup as did Ford Econoline vans late '60s and into the '70s.

I had one of those under the dash of my 32 ford. Worked well, but by the time the rest of the dash and wiring went in, it was a bitch to check and add fluid if the brakes needed bleeding. Plan ahead for your access, which I failed to do.

Does the topic mount put the MC in the cab? Only ask because there was reference to the MC being under the dash. The Dodge is on the engine side of the firewall. I think I still have one, gotta dig it out from somewhere. I was just thinking about using it (not for a MC) for the sake of not making one.

There is no way I’d ever put a master cylinder in the passenger cabin. First I would never risk the mess it will make when it leaks (they always do sooner or later). Second I would hate to have to lay upside down between the seat, pedals, shifter, column and park brake while reaching behind the dash with gauges, switches, wiring, and vent to hopefully pour fluid into a pot I can’t see the top of.

I can't recall the last time a brake master cylinder, that's been rebuilt and has new gaskets and stuff, leaked. I mean after I got the brakes all bled and such....not for a while, anyway. In practice, as you know they ain't supposed to leak...So, I'd be very optimistic regarding the "leaking" issue.

I remember the first time I saw one of these...I was intrigued with the components, then the fact that the pieces were as tight as they were. Well made? Oh, yeah.
The only car I had (have) where this would be useable? My '27 T tub, as illustrated by @dirt t's example.
My tub has the cowl door, intact. Still prefer the floor pedals, I'm old and stubborn.
Question: Does anyone have the info on Bob Drake repro '39 Ford pedal ass'y? I've used all my gennies...Drat!

I'm using a mopar motor home on my 31 tudor. The lid is screwed on, on my master cylinder so I'll just add a small remote reservoir under the gas tank lid on the cowl with a line back to my master cylinder.

I will have to weld a bung to the lid of the master cylinder to go to the remote reservoir but at this point I've about built every piece myself so it shouldn't be a problem.

Don't think you will find a van setup with a clutch pedal. I made the bellcrank to do the 90 degree turn out of the pivot from another brake pedal assembly mounted sideways and some left over 3/8" heim ends I had. Scan-171212-0001.jpg

If you pair the correct size M/C, you wont need power brake booster. I used and made under dash M/C. Translucent fluid reservoirs can be viewed by just looking under dash. Use bottle with bent tube out the top to fill.
