This was called "The Rose" and had a unique "3 Window" conversion

Jeff was on the HAMB a year or two ago and I'm thinking he said near as he was able find out it's gone. He had started a build thread on a copy he was building. I haven't seen the thread come back up in a while. He also had a friend that had a green Merc with yellow flames. It was one of the first if not THE first chopped Merc I ever saw in person. I had asked where it went in some thread why back and Jeff offered info, but don't remember what he said. I was reminded of the car the last few evenings as I've been watching Doug's videos. Both Jeff's Merc and the green one were in the '85 video I think....coulda been the '84.

This 55 was owned by a friend of mine in the 80's. Wonder where it is today?

Every time Mark posts the black and white photos it takes me back to my senior year of high school 1960-'61 - I loved those old green duo-tone pix of kustoms in the mags and tried to imagine the colors on those kustoms...but really couldn't even if the captions contained the colors on the car.

I'd bought a three-year old '57 Chevy 150 two door sedan and was 'attempting' to kustomize it. I had Candy Green rims on it, baby moon hubcaps and dropped in the front. It certainly wasn't a 'kustom' by any definition of the word and I didn't have any extra money ( I earned $37.50 a week working in a bakery...!!!) to buy skirts or pay a body man to do bodywork...but I thot it was a kustom...!!!

Below an illustration I did of it some years ago for "The Friday Nite Read" compilation of stories I auctioned off for the HAMB's/Ryan's benefit.

Great stuff Rik, just what I was looking for.

Also thanks to Moriarity for all the pictures and updates here, many that I have never seen before.

Dude, By my definition of the word Kustom, the illustration of the green 57 150 two door is definitely a kustom: a show 'n go mild kustom typical of the early 60's era. Perhaps you embellished your real car into the illustration as you wish it had been, adding the shaved handles, front emblem removal, tube grill and chrome dumps. Also, by my definition of perfect, the car in the illustration is perfect!
