I know these taillight treatments are 'traditional' but it still makes me cringe every time I see them. These cars didn't have very big lights to begin with, shrinking them and 'hiding' them in the bumper uprights strikes me as an invitation to be rear-ended given the rather poor state of awareness displayed by other drivers these days... The '51 Merc's lights are positively miniscule.

I'll also point out that each one of these is an illegal install as they lack the legally-required reflector component of the original lenses. Yeah, I know nobody enforces this stuff anymore, but if you did get rear-ended you may have to defend your choice in court if whoever hits you is aware of this.

 

I believe "El Capitola" was built entirely by Sam after he left and moved back to Sacramento.

that's...that's an orientation on Buick headlights you don't see very often, or, EVER. I wonder why...
