  2. You know guys, I was just looking at the picture of the "Green Flame" shot from the rear and I saw something I never noticed before. If you look on the left side of the car, it sure looks like the motorcycle that "Fonzi" rode in "Happy Days" is sitting there. I think the story about the Merc almost being used on the show might be pretty accurate. E

When was it built. The car and motorcycle are displayed together. Maybe the Fonz was signing autographs at the World of Wheels shows. This scan is from the 77 Merc issue in Street Rodder. Scan0574.jpg

From Mike Keys Leadsled book taken in Des Moines in 82. I can still picture it as it drove past where I was standing. I knew I was looking at a cool old Kustom. Why didn`t I take a picture of it. You can see the road rash. Scan0575.jpg

And another one that Mo posted on the page before with the caption below. It was built for the 75-76 show season. Taken from the h Scan0577.jpg Scan0576.jpg ardbound Showtime book copyrighted in 1980. And one in Garlit`s version from the Hot Rod Show World 32nd Annual from 92.

I saw the "Green Flame" at the Starbird show in Tulsa. It was so kool, I hadn't seen a chopped Merc before and it just floored me. I agree it would be kool if someone would clone it.....

I'm not a fan of opening doors, trunk and hoods at car shows. If you are going to do it?

I was at the San Diego Automotive Museum last week and Fonzi’s motorcycle is a permanent display there.

I'm not either Mick, however, IF you're going to take the time to put your kustom in a show, you want all the points you can get from the judges in order to win an award...and possibly the cash that goes with some of it. I agree the kustom looks better all closed up but I kinda figure at an indoor show, opening the car up is a given...that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it...!!!

  26. I get what you are saying but to me at that point why bother even putting them on the show floor. They might as well judge them all in the back because it completely destroys the entire purpose of a custom. I pretty much just walk by customs that are all opened up at a show because I could care less what the the trunk or engine compartment looks like. If there is room I could understand opening the door on one side so people could see the interior but completely opened up might as well not even be there to show IMO. It's what sent a lot of customs off the rails in the first place, changes for the sake of points, and it is no more useful today.

If you are in competition for an award it is mandatory for judging purposes, however after your car has been judged I think they should close them back up.
