I miss this show. I wish one of the club members would of picked this show after Rusty passed.

Nice pictures from the Mid City show. I believe I am the fellow with the glasses in the second picture. I attended the show in87, 88, 90 and 99 with my 40 Mercury. You are right it was a great show.
Here are a couple of pictures of my Mercury. Mine is the convertible, the brown car belonged to Conrad Winkler from Milwaukee Wisconsin.

What a great thread....Hey Straycat thanks for including the Misty Blue Merc in your
latest post....it eventually wound up in New Jersey many years ago when it was owned
by Jack Kiely who won the 2015 SEMA Best in Show Design Award with his Rob Ida built 1940 Mercury....the Merc went from Jack to long time friend Joe Urspruch and I
think from Joe it went back to the midwest.

Thanks Lee for the kind words and the back ground on the "Misty Blue" Merc. I took the picture at the first Lead sled Spectacular when it was in Wichita. I've always loved the Merc, never saw it again. It is really kool the past owner now owns the Rob Ida built 40 Merc. Wow what a kool kustom...

  12. That's funny Buick Boy....I also have a picture of Straykatkustoms in the back ground of a picture I took at the Hangin' Dice show in Ft Smith in 1990....years before we ever met and became friends. I guess now you and I have hook up someplace and become friends since I caught you on film, too. ;)

Here's a pic of your Merc I took at the Mid Century Show in '90....guess I only posted 49-51 Mercs in that other post

Is there a thread, or has anyone put together a then and now comparison of kustoms from the past? I keep wondering what happened to these cars. Thanks for the info included in this thread about some of them.

    Or two doors.........

You're right rfraze, seems like the only "Lost Kustoms" people are interested in are the ones from the glory days of the 50s and early 60s that the big boys like Barris, Bailon, Hines and other famous builders built.

It would be kool to find out what happened to a lot of the customs from the great kustom resurrection of the late 70s through the early 90s.

As I've watched the many kustom car show videos from those days, I've seen a number of cars in the background as well as "featured cars" that I'd love to get more information on, as well as finding out "What ever happened to.........."E

Looking at the 4 door above, the '51 rear window really works well with the 4 door sedan rear door shape, much better (in my opinion) than it works with the coupe rear quarter window.

Sounds like a plan. Do you ever get to any events in the south east or the Milwaukee area? These are some pictures of the 49Ford I had around the same time as the mercury. Did you ever see it at any of the KKOA shows? img023.jpg img023.jpg img024.jpg img026.jpg img027.jpg

If I had to drive a 90's Style kustom it would have to be this one. If I remember correctly Johnny Young built it...... I would really like to buy this Merc and convert it to a 60's style kustom. I would add thin white walls, Chrome Smoothies w/ Spiders, Door pull grill and a Fast Al's Pearl white interior...

  25. You know, that would be a style that would really suit that car. Of course, it was the height of fashion when it came out with the billet wheels and tweed interior.

Yeah but it was that style and fashion that brought all the traditional builds back into vogue. Thank God for that.

Seeing the 4 door chopped Merc converts makes me wonder what ever happen to the one David Lee Roth of Van Halen had Dick Dean rework in the 1980s. It was featured in the Panama video. Kind of makes you wonder if one of those are it redone? I understood it was one of the first Dick did the Buick/Olds floor pan chassis swaps to. Kool pic's none the less! Larry
