Thanks Sancho, OOPS, I had the wrong Caddy .... :)

I might be wrong but I thought that Dick Dean had chopped the Caddy and Keith Dean finished it for the GNRS.
Tom Davidson took these kool pics...

Gonmad, you asking about the grille in the '58 Caddy...??? It appears to me it's polished flat aluminum bars, similar to mine...the reflections on it appear to be coming off the bumpers...I think that's all you're seeing...

Roger, I thought it may have been similar to yours, but the reflection certainly messed me up.

That's awesome also Mick. That grill almost looks like a 55 pickup grill

  6. Chrome can be a pain to shoot, especially at indoor shows where the lighting is weird.

    Here are a couple more...

Sorry it is a short story...... Photos were from Gary Glasgow and I think it was taken at Bo Huff's place.

  21. Cool under construction sled. Sorry I never got out to see Bo's place. That brings another thought into my head. Now that Bo has left us, are his kids still building out of his shop? Hopefully they didn't have to shut it down--unless that's what they wanted to do..........E

Well GV, I'm not sure I agree with your "sow's ear" assessment of all '60 Dodges, but what Hill did to that '60 Dodge certainly made it more appealing...!!! It's definitely thinking outside the usual kustom envelope...!!!

There I go trying to be all literary and I get called out by a profesional LOL.

Roger, I agree, not a bad looking car stock but this is exactly what customizings should do, Take the vision of the original designer and expand it to the next level.

Agreed 100%...I personally have a soft spot for '59 Dodge hardtops and hardly ever see any of those Dodges around anymore...stock or kustomized...

  30. Nice group of pictures from the 20th, Mick. That was my first KKOA show and it was a hoot.

The '59 Ranchero you posted belonged to my friend Charlie. You even managed to catch a little bit of my Buick parked behind it. Charlie is the one who filled me in on Larry Watson many years ago. I learned alot from ol' Charlie.

Ironic that you posted this picture today, as next Wednesday it will be eight years since he left us to go build customs in heaven. I think of him everyday..........

A funny story about Charlie and the 2000 Leadsled.........

We had planned to get to Wichita on Wednesday night. We left Wednesday morning, but I had carb problems with my Buick. Car wouldn't run after it got up to about 30 mph. We limped it from Castle Rock (where Charlie lived) to Colorado Springs. Once we got to the Springs, we got off of I-25 and parked at a Loaf and Jug. Luckily there was an Auto Zone right across the street. We tried ignition stuff to try and get it right and nothing worked. We were at it all day and I was beginning to think I'd better start thinking of how I was going to get my car home. I told Charlie that and he said there was no way ANY of us were going to miss out on the Spectacular. I then suggested to maybe crack open the carb and see if there was a problem with that.

Charlie was a king of a back yard mechanic and probably forgot more than I'll ever know. He told me that the problem didn't seem fuel related, but he'd try it anyway. He had rebuilt my carb a few weeks before, and it was running fine until that morning when we headed out. Well, he popped the top off the carb and he couldn't believe what he saw. Somehow, the float had fallen off it's mount on one side and was sitting in the bowl crooked. So, when the car got up to speed it was basically running out of gas. He put the float back and we were in business. It ran perfect once again.

By this time it was after 4 in the afternoon, so we really had to make up some time. We hit it hard to make some time. We hadn't been going too long when Charlie got on the squawker (CB) and said it was time for supper. Charlie, being an old truck driver, was a big fan of the truck stop and diner style places. We stopped at the Tomahawk around Fountain to grab a bite, and then we were back on the road. We got to Lamar around 7 or so. The road through town was all tore up with road construction. We did a fuel stop and got back on the road. We were cruising along and I kept expecting to see the Leaving Colorful Colorado/Welcome to Kansas sign. After a while I began to wonder what was up. I got on the radio and asked Charlie where we were. He told me that him and his son Eddie were just talking about the same thing.

I learned on that road trip to always take a map. Those days it was just before the time of the GPS, and very few people had cell phones. We pulled off to the side the road to figure things out. I did have a cell, so I called home to ask my girlfriend to look at the map for me. After a few minutes, we figured that we had missed the ramp for highway 50 because of the road construction, and we ended up on 287. There was a storm coming up and the skies were giving us a lightening storm I'll never forget.

Well, we ended up in Boise City, Oklahoma. We had to then catch highway 56 to Dodge City, highway 154 to Bucklin, then 54 to Wichita. After going close to a hundred miles out of our way, grabbing a few short catnaps over night at a few rest stops and one in a farmer's equipment storage yard, we got to Wichita around 8 o'clock Thursday morning.

We got to our hotel and checked in, then we were ready to check out the host hotel and the fairgrounds. We were all excited about getting to town and suddenly none of us were tired or wanted to sleep.

There were amazing cars everywhere! We got to the fairgrounds, found a great spot and decided to prowl around and check things out. We left my Buick and my friend Mitch's Chrysler back at camp and we all piled in the back of Charlie's Ranchero. We were having a ball!

Charlie's Ranch was slammed. No hydraulics or bags, just low. With a few extra hundred pounds of dudes in the back, she was almost plowing the dirt road through the 'grounds. Now, if you were at the 20th, you might recall how the stage was on one side of the road, and the show area was on the other. They decided to put the sound monitoring equipment opposite the stage, so there was a big bundle of wires strewn across the road. Big mistake! The big bundle was just tall enough to catch on the under carriage of Charlie's Ranch. As we were going by we heard lots of yelling to stop. Charlie managed to stop just before the hung up wires pulled the mics, guitars and other electrical equipment and musical instruments off the stage!

We all got out of the Ranch, and there was just enough clearance to get over the wires. After that, they decided to make a little spot in the grass to go around the wires across the road.

All during the weekend, people kept coming around our camp and most wanted to see the super low Ranchero that almost cancelled the musical entertainment at the 20th Anniversary Leadsled Spectacular! E
