Thanks for sharing the story, I love to read stories about going to car shows. Charlie sounded like a kool guy that was a great friend.

A friend of mine just posted this picture of his first car on FB. How kool would it be to be cruising around town in a Kustom at the age of 16. Very Kool.

I believe Kurt McCormick owned that car and brought it to the first KKOA Leadsled Spectacular.
I wonder what became of it.

  6. It's so cool to see an old kustom that has managed to survive over the years. Time has treated her well! E

Saw this on FB, very kool Kustom....After years of lusting, the Stevens custom '56 Crown Victoria is finally in the fold. Bought by Brooks Stevens in 1958 and customized with his son Steve in '59/60, it has traveled fewer than 3,000 miles since. Besides the cosmetic mods, it has Jaguar four wheel disc brakes, Corvette four speed trans and a Mercedes 300S interior with a full complement of Stewart Warner gauges. All this is powered by a Lincoln 430 V8 with a claimed 575hp with the Latham supercharger installed. The pics make the paint look nicer than it is but overall it's a very cool and original period custom. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1458533017.719421.jpg

  15. Happy Easter everyone! This post has been kinda quiet the last few days, so I thought I'd bump it with a few pictures of Harold Olsen's Buick (pictures by Twochops posted on Riksters' site). One of my favorites. Don't know much about Harold, but I've seen him on a few of my old KKOA videos. He seemed like a nice guy. If anybody has any history on him, I'd love to hear it. He passed away fairly young. I believe it was in the late 80s. Would have liked to sit down and talk customs with him. He left us too soon..........E

Harold was the ultimate gold chainer, he always wore more than one gold ring and necklesses. I heard more than once that he lived in Carmel California in the same neighborhood where Clint Eastwood lived. I saw him at many of the events threw the years. He was a very strong supporter of KKOA and attended many of the events. I was a young kid at the time when I first met him. He was a likeable guy. Don Knobler(spelling ?)of Iowa City bought his Buick when Harold built his Chevy with the Winfield blended paint job.

  18. Thanks for the info Stan. I knew his Buick ended up in the Midwest, and as far as I know it is still alive and well.
I have a video of Harold describing his fleetline at a KKOA Sled Scene West show in '85 or '86, before the Winfield paint. It was in lavender primer with alot of clean body mods and a nice teardrop trailer following along. Harold referred to his trailer as his "lunchbox". Man, the 80's KKOA days must have been great! Harold had a glass eyeball. When he passed away, they put it in the horn*****on of his fleetline. That way he could keep an eye on it.

Harold Olsen's Fleetline went through a number of renditions...green, gold, black cherry w/flames...and was always a knockout! Hard top, full fade-aways, and all! A timeless classic.

One thing that I noticed about Harold`s fleetline was that a lot of people copied the upholstery design. I have seen in more than just a few cars. I believe Bob Sipes in the Kansas City Missouri area did the work. Harold was the one that talked Ray and Myrna Bozart into taking there Buick custom to California from Iowa to the Oakland Roadster show. He won at least 3 major Custom awards including the Sam Barris Memorial Award. Harold told Ray, It was unusual that non west coast custom cars won at Oakland. Harold knew a cool car when he saw one. His cars are timeless and his build style still looks good today.

Are you referring to the Custom Car Revival in Indy.
