Have to agree there! It's a matter of balance and proportion - when it's right you know it at a glance. I like dual sidemount spares on classic era cars, too.
I had wondered if the gold-scalloped car with the tube grille was the "Golden Sunrise" or a new copy. The original version was one of a handful of newly-contructed custom cars which re-lit my fire in the early eighties. I loved the Winfield-trademark bullet grille; very showy, but perfect in this car. I also really liked the Olds Delta 88(?) headlight buckets - new, different, and nice. Some period color pics of the Golden Sunrise show it very creamy yellow, and others show it very orangey. I'm not sure if it had two different paintjobs or that was just a magazine color reproduction discrepancy.
Very true I love his stuff and he is a very nice guy as well. Did you see him the Rides episode with Billy Gibbons a couple weeks ago?
Rot n Kustom, The car was owned later on by someone who street rodded it. It had billet wheels on it and blue paint. So to match the wheels, the grill bullets were replaced with that stainless thin plate grill. A few years ago Sal Vega (from here in SAn Jose) bought the car, and restyled it back to the original style. Here's a pic of it with a fade paint job when he first got it on the road. It looked killer with that paint job. Within that week someone ran into the rear quarter so there went the paint job. After fixing the quarter, Sal went with the solid candy gold paint with white scallops. All the time Sal owned the car, he was searching for the type of bullets that would fit in the grill opening. Because they were different sizes he never found the correct ones. I believe the car is in the midwest now.
Good gawd I love that fade...never saw that pic before. Still looks good with the solid gold and scallops, but DAMN!!! Olson
Mike, Thanks for the info. Sal Vega has owned some nice cars over the years. Last I checked, Gene Winfield still sells bullets in various sizes. Here is a small pic of the car from 1983 or so - was featured in a few magazines, but mostly b/w, unfortunately.
We saw this Pontiac a few yrs back, it was awsome!!! out of Canada, have never seen it again And of course the Infamous Alley Oop (white merc)
I think this is my all time favorite pic I've seen in this thread. I love that snow!! That should be next December on the calendar
