Do you mean '38 ford? Westergard built a convertible sedan very much like the Ray Vega '38. The Westergard car used a LaSalle grille, while Valley Customs used 40 Ford sheetmetal.
If I am correct, thats "Blackjack" and last I heard it was owned by a guy in Temecula. That car has an interesting history. If you search for it I'm sure theres a post around about it, although it may be a while ago. I heard it fell on one of its owners and killed him. Maybe thats just a myth. Just going off little bits and pieces I've heard. Still probably my favorite shoebox and chop. I'd love to have an update on that car......
no, i mean a 31' roadster on deuce rails with a very trick removable windshield for lake racing. it was built for norm milne by westergard in the early 40's and now the shop i work at has it and i'm doing the restoration of it. the original car had a 36' ford dash with a 40' ford column, and we don't have any good pics of the interior of the car to go off of, so i am just looking for more infor. we got some infor from norm before he died and that car that you posted a pic of is in some of the infor he gave us.
Hi, I happen to live a mile from the place where this Chrysler is for sale. Top quality car, has got the Kustoms Of America thorpy from John D'Agostino in Finland. It was built some 9 years ago and the black paintjob is still perfect. Check it out: http://www.trianglemotor.com/uk/ukcustom.htm - As you can see, the car is for sale.
Wow! No, I know nothing of the '31 Roadster. The '38 Sedan Convertible that Westergard built was for Norm Milne, so that's probably the one that was in the picture (?). Like I said, from the back or sides, the Valley Custom and the Westergard 'vert sedans looked very similar. Would love to see a shot of the '31!
That is Ray Vega's 38 Ford with '40 Ford front fenders and hood. Valley Customs did all the work on that on... perfect!!! And this is Norm Milnes '38 Ford Convertible sedan that Harry Westergard built. (botom)
Thanks for posting these pictures, Ron. It is one of my all time favorites. Everytime I see it I just can't take my eyes off of it. What a kar! E
As I am closing in on my 500th post, I thought I would show some cars from the Keystone State (Pennsylvania, to you outlanders). First up, some customs by the Derham Body Company of Rosemont, PA, near Philly. Derham was one of the few companies to span the years from the classic era to the fifties. Their early custom bodywork was usually on the conservative side to appeal to the Philadelphia society crowd. By the fifties, Derham was customizing stock bodies as well as doing a few ground-up show cars for Detroit and independent designers. Here are three cars, a Chrysler, a Lincoln, and a Hudson which show off a Derham trademark: padded leather tops. Unlike the west coast Carson style, these were permanently affixed to the steel roof.
so, i checked out your website, very nice. so basically i'm to find more infor on a 31' ford on deuce rails that was built for norm milne by westergard. it holds scta records at el mirage for i beleive 104 or so, with a 32' flatty. anyways we are doing a restoration at my shop and need more detailed photos for proper resto. any info would be much appreciated.
yeah!! just like a 12 month subscription to the the jelly of the month club!! and this chrysler is on ebay right now...looks like an old custom, i like the taillights, dont really like the grill but i guess its cool
For post #500, a car by Bridgeville, Pennsylvania customizer Vaun Hamlin. Pictures are from the March 1956 Rod & Custom. The 1950 Ford convertible was owned by Melvin D'Loss. D'Loss dropped the car off at Hamlin's Body Shop and was promptly sent overseas by Uncle Sam. Over the next two years Hamlin mailed his ideas to D'loss who replied with his ideas. The car was subsequently finished and published in R&C before D'Loss ever saw it! Here are some pictures of the D'Loss car called "The Roadable Custom." It was a really clean design - check out the Packard grille and extended rear quarters.
Concratulations on your 500th post... a great custom... Here is a larger picture I have in my collection.
Here are some more pictures of this great looking custom which has been with us since the ealry 50's Fantastic bodywork on the sectioned hood. Personally I dont care for the painted Sombrero's... there must have been a good reason for that later modification... but the rest of this custom... WOW
My beloved '54 Chevy that I first chopped in 1990. I can't believe I've owned this car going on 16 years.
