I have a flathead I am pulling from a '51 F-3. Anyone know of a decent vintage engine guy within 2-300 miles of Catlettsburg, KY 41129? Also, any suggestions on what ****** to put behind this thing? I have the truck trans, but I would figure that it would be suited to well for cruising? I have been reading as much as I can, just looking for some experience. Thanks!
What are you putting this flatty in? what kind of driving do you plan to do? what do you need an engine guy for? For sure read here: http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_home.htm and here: http://www.agt.net/public/bboogaar/
Check with Norm Alhgrim. Look under members search and try and get in touch with him. He is located in Lexington, KY. He is the local flathead guy around here in central KY.
welcome, neighbor! i'm in portsmouth..... does it need rebuilt? what is your skill level? grandpa is the local guru around here but he only works on his own stuff, however, he is always willing to talk people through or give advice..... i've never done one, but the t5 seems to be a popular conversion with many people that are pleased with it.... pm me and i'll send you my #.......you may not need to spend a ton of money on machine work....
Just a little background info. I don't have a project right off that I was going to put the engine in. In the near future I might be looking for a T bucket or maybe some small roadster. I was able to get the truck really cheap ($400 with a ***le) at a gov. auction and it has 35k original miles. The motor still cranks, but has sat for about 8 years. The truck has been vandalized pretty badly so it's not really a restoration project unless someone would be real adventurous. I was planning on parting it out to recoup my money and then some. I have seen several articles about the T5 trans, but never really knew of anyone locally that had run one. One more question, what would be a good rear end to run with a T5 in something lake a lakes modified car that will get street driven and highway time back and forth to shows and what not. Thanks again for the responses!
why, nothing beats the look of a banjo and if your not abusing it and not running big HP, then they are just fine....you can get open drive conversions for them, some of the later years even had open drives on them......
