  1. Yes, I street raced that car a LOT. Never lost in that car. In the early 80's Duke gave me a Bantam Roadster for the Anglia w/no motor and trans. Jeff Lirones ended up with the motor/trans. I bought the Anglia from a kid in Agoura with no motor. Eddie Alvarez towed it to the Valley for me, in the dark, with a flashlight taped to the back bumper as towing a light:D

Wow i saw the white Vette lift the wheels big time with no burn out where they raced by the Burbank airport, i thought the Silver Chevelle looked familiar, and yes thats Gary Hesselbrocks 68 camaro. Cool.:)

  3. Was that the night Bruce raced the Fireman's green Vega?

It could very well be but yes i think so i remember the Vega well (bart drove it), also there was a trailered green 68 big block chevelle that was really dirty like it sat under trees on the trailer, well he set Nortons Nova out like 5 and kept cheating by launching the car then turning on his headlights , well he got away with it a third time and won. and then big argument followed.

  5. Yes, Bart drove the Vega. I got arrested later on that night on Saticoy. Undercover shoved a pistol in my face. I said Jesus Christ man' I'm just a fucking street racer. Saw my junk on TV the next day on the 6 o clock News. BAWAA. I'd made enough street racing earlier that night to bail myself out. Was the dirty Chevelle Anthony Golatti's?

  6. Clybourn. I can walk there from my house now.

Im not sure whos Chevelle it was, but i was a one of the big busts a Woodman and Saticoy ,i might of been that night?, i guess i didnt have a car there. I think Randy Nicsham(sp) had his 70 Roadrunner then, and it got towed that night?

  8. Yes, me and Nish raced before the big crowd got to Saticoy....then someone whispered about Hess' race @ the airport, so I left to go watch. It was a real small crowd, nobody to pick on after watching, so I went back to Saticoy. The bust was almost over by then. I could see a lot of commotion at the end from where I was at the start line. That's when the undrcover got me. I later found out the got Bottle Bob, Nish, and our flag person

The vette belonged to Hess. The chevelle, i forgot who owned it but Manukian (sp?) sounds right.

I have more pics to post, but they are so old and have been in a album for 25 years and kinda started to come apart when I tried to pull them away to scan.

Wow, suprised to see that this thread is still strong! Funny thing I noticed was that nobody mentioned coming on out to the "Other Valley" San Gabriel-Alhambra. We all hung out @ The Old Britt's Parking lot=Later called Zody's, we'd cruise Valley Bl. up to Bob's Alh,then back on down then grab chow @ Pup N Taco, There'd be quite a showing of cars in that lot. Clubs like the Chevelles,Camaros of SGV would be out in force and we even see an ocassional Straight axle Chevelle from back in the "Blairs Glory Days"
Every kind of car was out in force from Vegas to GTO's, Willy's Pick Ups and Overland Tubs, Glass Bodied Pontiac Powered Tubed Chassied 67 Cudas and Metal bodied Anglias-(That last 4 all owned by Hippy Paul Duarte=RIP). Papa John Regan and 1st his Brown 67 Nova, later his Wickedly White 68 Camaro painted by Park Auto Bake in El Monte, Glen Metz and his "Bottle Rocket" 65 Mustang Notchback, Frank Coscarelli in his 69 Z/28, Larry Bush in his 66 Teal Green Elco,Bob Chaney in 66 Impala wagon, later his 69 Camaro Gabe Rodriguez is 71 Demon, later Cuda-Challenger-Cuda. My Late Brother Gary in his wickedly fast 68 SS396 Chevelle, earlier 65 Impala SS396. Dogde Charger and myself 1st in 74 Vega Hatchback, then 72 Kammback, 68 GTO 4spd ragtop, 69 SS350 Camaro(which I still have and my sis's 65 GTO Ragtop which I still have).
We all went out to Lynwood, Terminal Island, OCIR, Irwindale (Old N New),Manchester Bl-405, Van Nuys Bl. Roxford, Kevin's both in Resada/Canoga Park, Bob's on Sherman Way in Canoga Pk., I can't count how many nites were spent under the 210/5 FWY transition along the tracks on San Fernando Road and how many we scattered over to Denny's right off the 5. We spent time at the Midway Bowl in N. El Monte on Thursday nites setting up street races when we should have been homework ;). Lots of races on Flair Drive next the 10fwy not to mention the Valleys finest "Low Key affair" the beginning of the Long Beach 7= later 710 FWY in Alh. where many a great street race was held, (I don't think that would happen now?????)
Guys, It's time for another reunion, Your Bob's=(Torrance) or Mine=(The Worlds Famous Bob's Big Broiler) in Downey. Jim would be happy either way since he would benefit from them both ;), Let me know so we can set up.

  15. I was there, but never raced.. All I had at the time was a 6 banger 60 Falcon. All I did was carry guys there to watch.. However, when we did a street Racer night at OCIR from mid-night to whenever, I did have a '54 Merc, but got beat every run by the '69 Beetle at the hair raising e.t.'s of low 19 seconds....LOL

  24. Yeah, we used to call him Bandini, like the fertilizer. Do you remember that?:D
In fact, I thought that was his real name, because so many people used it right in front of him and he'd answer to it

  26. Who can forget Bandini. Me and a friend Greg Jacobsen used to go to the street races and follow Groucho around because we knew that at some point Bandini would say something stupid and groucho would just tear into him leaving him stuttering. I would laugh so hard I would drool. Granted me and Greg would just egg Groucho on to Bandini's dismay but it was so well deserved. I have not to this day met anybody who could just bullshit so much that it was almost amazing to watch him go, almost. Most of the time you would just laugh at the outrageous bullshit. I was like 16 at the time....

I remember Steve Lyons came to Glenoaks, with a Camaro on the trailer. He was hounding someone, and said the car was'nt running right and still would give them 5 cars. They unloaded it and I think Randy Nishman made a pass in it. It sounded like they had to plug wires crossed.

Thanks! Its almost done, should have it out soon.

I remember Tom, he had a silver nova, 72-73 with a sbc.

Early 80's van nuys blvd, I used to work at west castle next to super shops, after work we would all hang out in the parking lot. I had my gto then, one night there was a few races going together on Raymer. Tom says, all the girls have to stay here and the guys will all go race on Raymer. They left, and I loaded all the girls in my gto and drove out to Raymer, I guess back then girls werent allowed...ha ha...The guys were all pissed I brought their girlfriends out to the races... I ran my gto a few times, not many girls street racing back then. It ran mid/high 13's all motor, not fast by todays standards but it was fun for then.

I used to drive my Nova to the old Harveys Broiler back in the day (late 80's) for the cruise nights, also my car was picked to be in the movie they shot there "License to Drive" with Corey Haim and Corey Feldman, not sure of the exact date. It was a cold night the movie was shot and we were there all night...good thing they were serving free coffee..ha ha

I have a old dash plaque from one of the big cruise nights April 14, 1988.

Once in awhile a street race would get set up from there, went to a few cant remember the names of the streets. One night it was plastic man and nelson, trailered cars, the cops came, we all scattered. Didnt get to see the race.
