Hi all. Is there a bolt kit I can buy for a Chevy 250 L6 waterpump? I believe they're 3/8" unc. Thanks. Roger.
Iron****ers don't have 3/8-16 bolts? If you have a pump, you can put a longer bolt through and mark how long it needs to be to extend 1/2" (13mm) past the mating surface. Then measure the length from under the head to your mark, that's the bolt length. If the available lengths are not quite right, you can get longer and cut off a bit. That's what I'd do, and I live where one can buy "kits" for just about anything.
Took mine to the hardware store and bought bolts that stuck out around a 1/2 inch past the pump. Ya need to know if an alt bracket is used by one of em.
If I don't forget I can go out in the morning and take the bolts out of the pump on my old 250 and measure them. I can't remember if they are 5/16 or 3/8 right now though . 5/16 take a 1/2 inch wrench and 3/8 take a 9/16 wrench.
The original poster is in the UK so finding UNC bolts might be an issue........from memory both 5/16th and 3/8th UNC bolts have the same thread count as 5/16th and 3/8th ****worth which would/should be easier to find in England.....err Whitworth although the thread pitch and more importantly the actual bolt head size is ****worth but could be used if UNC are not available........I throw any bolts/nuts that are not UNC/UNF in the garbage bin.....andyd
