Vulva parts in a HOT ROD? that would just be waaay too safe.

on the metric conversion, i'm a machinist(at least i play one on tv) every damn day i have to deal with prints that were obviously engineered in english, converted to metric in the cad system to conform to the customers standards the print gets sent to us, the people that make the parts, and the first thing we do is convert the metric dimensions right back to english!

If you run a MPH speedo 38 percent faster it will read in KPH. you can get a ratio adapter for changing the speed from several sources, do a Google search.

The 56 to 59 Studebaker Hawk gauges are indeed SW, and will work with standard SW senders

I see......so this gaugeface is from one of the remote production facillities of S&W.
    Enköping to be specific.:D

    Hey psycko.
Listen to what tungle says. He knows someone that can help you out. There is a guy/firm in Sweden doing that stuff.

Don't see your problem at all.
Buy gauges - talk to man - man make face - put up dineros - gauges in return - happy psycho - no problemo. :)

I have no use for a system designed by a lying Frenchman who had to
falsify his data to make his system work.
I am forced to design new stuff in communist units, so why would I punish myself using that crap at home?
Use good old english units and be more "traditional"....

    regards,
    DJ

  7. I had a speedo from a Cit CX, converted to SAE. All it was was a paper transfer applied over the stock KPH guage face.
The odo read in Kilo, so the car had high mileage :D .
Yours would stay a low-mileage car for longer ;) .

Take the speedo apart, scan or photograph it, and go PhotoShop happy.

Grown men going crazy over meassuring units.

    Go buy a conversion table.

    Hey Psycko.
I have a set of nice cream-yellow/black faced back mount AC gauges for sale.
Speedo pluss 2 combi gauges, (water temp, gas, amp and oil press).
Will email you a pic if you are interested.
    Drop me a PM.
I'll send by post inside Sweden, No taxes and shit. I live close to the border ya see.
I go there regularly to buy my Whiskey at your low EU prices anyway.:)

    Hey
When I get to think of it, I actually have a Tach also. Not directly macthing the other gauges but it's 50's old, and complete with a cable I think.

Not sure if it's metric or english revs though ..... Approximately around 350 degres pr. turn anyhow I guess .........:D:D:D:D

Would that be fahrenheit or centigrade?

Son, you got a spider on your head.

  11. Absolutly not, well at least on the conversion part.:D

Tell what we used to use when S/W gauges were out of reach for most of us we used Smith's gauges out of a limey car.
Of course if we could afford them we'd use S/Ws but the Smit's looked just as cool and if enoug people have odne it that makes it traditional right?

You shouldn't have any trouble finding old Smith's in metric.

BTW you're absolutly right useing different units of measure makes life hard, so get started on legislation and let me know when you're switching to SAE.:D

Let's just say it depends on what the customer wants.
If he says fahrenheit, I'll claim it to be centigrade. ....CONVERSION TIME!!!! .....we where trying to force him over to your gauge-doctor weren't we. :D

    your call

    U.S. GO METRIC!

OK, now I've said it, just my 2 cents. Sorry. I already bought this one to study at school here at least somehow... Maybe you could use that one while driving your hotrod, it's pretty simple to use with one hand... :(

Good idea, if it wasn't for one little detail. My speedo is in mph, and goes to 100. Just changing the gear ratio will make the needle bottom out at 62 mph
I guess fabricating a new face is a better idea after all, if I can't find a metric one.

"-Yeah, I chopped it ten centimeters to get it look right"
"-Those 12,5 centimeter dropped Magnum axles suck"

Sorry. Things look the same in metric, but doesn't it sound a bit awkward?

    Akward ???

    it sounds just plain dumb.

We euro Hambers just have to go on living in our kvasi-meassurement world.

HEY we rule...we can handle both :D

Have a nice weekend, wich by the way is meassured in days/hours. wich is not in any way metric. 60 - 60 - 24 - 365 - and so on.

This is getting silly, right?

    Welcome back, Nads! :).

Autometer will custom screen their gauges... but they charge $50 each custom screening. That'll get expen$ive in a hurry...

If you are looking for vintage metric gauges, your best chances are with Australian and or Canadian stock. We can refinish and calibrate most gauges to anything you want, but that can become expensive for one-off custom artwork.

I was very lucky for a brief spell; the speedometer in the Morris Minor went out of calibration and happened to read near enough the speed in km/h on the mph-marked dial. Then it stopped working altogether ...

I find it very useful to be able to use Imperial and metric units interchangeably. There's power in knowing your 25.4-times table.

What gets me is the kids here (in fact considerably more than a single generation) who no longer have a feel for how much a horsepower is. Other mainly metric countries have retained bhp or some near equivalent like PS. In South Africa we were characteristically pedantic about the whole thing, and consequently have little snotheads bragging about how many Killerwhat?s they've got in their 125s without having any idea of how much that is in real power.

What about finding some old Porsche dash instruments? Sure, they may not be cheap, but the old VDO gauges are pretty slick looking. If you aren't racing, the same can be had from a euro-spec VW. Just throwing some more ideas out there--
