If I can get some Lacquer Paint "Acrylic" How much would I need to do this Buick? I would like to have a gallon or more left over. How many coats would i need to do some nice color sanding and such?

I use the new stuff all the time, so don't go there.
Its great and will last forever till it chips and has other problems.
I would like a Jet Black on this car.

Problem is I mess up my body work a lot, and think with the Lacquer
I could avoid Super heavy build on the first coat or two leaving me room to fix any bad waves... I'm using guide coats and all that but its just so easy to miss a spot or Nine! This car has been hit on every side, And I hit the top side with a saw

PS: the Lacquer will be going over good uro primer, not ten coats of red oxide
and red lead to crack later....

I bought two gallons of acrylic laquer to do a 32 5-window on the advice of a bodyshop owning friend. (That includes the frame and fenders)

I would expect you to have a little less than a gallon left if you bought two to paint that.
UNLESS you put a lot of paint on it.
How much sanding and buffing work do you want to do?
I say take your time, put about a dozen decent coats on it, then see how it sands out. Certainly go light on the first couple and let them dry out a bit.
Lacquer loves to remelt the layers beneath it and can cause some issues.

Are you using a HVLP gun?
That can save you about 40% from having a lot less overspray.
BTW, nice car, I like the looks a lot.
If the bodywork is worthy of high gloss black, I'm impressed.
You have some serious time into that one for sure!

    regards,
    Doug

  4. Sand that euro primer with 400 FIRST-Then,For a black check out the Cadillac Limo black from the sixties or a Nissan or Honda black from the eighties[more pitchblack than a grayblack if you get my drift..........I'd recommend Medium speed thinner-two to four double wet coats -dry 2 days -600 sand that- then repeat the same amount of coats-then 1000wetblock sand again.
Then switch to a slow thinner or retarder and give it three -to four coats -allowing 15 min flash time between coats.
allow that to dry about a month- then [no more color sanding]BUT start polishing......LOTS OF POLISHING........ first machine then by hand-should be enough to prevent rub thru.......
Lots would put more coats in total ,But thats a lot. it will be less apt to crack on ya.
