    Hi guys

These cool old ladder bars came on a 1935-41 Ford ch***is I recently acquired. Somewhere in the past a previous owner welded them directly to a 10-bolt Chevy rear end. I cut them off at the axle with the goal of tapping for clevises. The top tube will tap for a 3/4” shank clevis (same size shank as on the front heim).

The lower bar on the ladder bars is in fact a solid bar. It is 3/4” diameter. Just want to verify that there is no concern with tapping for a 1/2” DIA shank clevis. That’s plenty of wall, correct? Or should I down a size on the clevis shank? And the ladder bars don’t car if one clevis is 3/4” and one is 1/2”, as long as they each have the same slot width for the bracket, right?

I might be over thinking this, but I generally practice better safe than sorry when it comes to suspension components and trust the collective wisdom of the H.A.M.B. to steer me right.

    Thanks

    Bantam

I've done 100's of ladder bar ch***is over the last 40+ years. My favorite way of holding a rearend. They all mounted toward the outside end of the rearend inside the spring hangers and at the front were mounted about 8 inched apart for a triangle type mount. All the clevis sizes I used had a 5/8th fine threaded shank and used 1/2 inch bolts thru 3/8th plate mounting brackets at the rear and at the front end the mount was a duel sheer mount with 1/2 inch bolts. The front was also urethane bushed.
