Hot rodding (like most things in life) is far more about the people than the cars themselves. Good people make good hot rods and this is a good example of that. Thanks for the story!
Thanks for sharing that with us, Mark! Great story. I'm on my second marriage, my first wife couldn't accept my hobby. I lucked out when I met Karen, though. She loves the cars and the people, and she puts up with me as well! A born & raised city girl, I even convinced her to move halfway across the country to a very small town this year. Amazing what the right partner will do for bringing joy to your life. I just hope she feels the same way. LOL
I know the feeling. 42 years ago this November I crawled out from under my car to meet the gal who would become my wife a short 2 months and 2 days later. Never regretted the decision and the shared insanity of the things mechanical that we play with has been there since the start. Best pit crew and support staff a guy could ask for.
Hey BROKENSPOKE If you and Denise get together ,her name could be MISPOKEN.........hahahahahah Just pulling your chains hahahahahah Love the story and at One time in my life I too was a single Dad,and its wasn't easy,,and I too found the right lady............any love grand.............
I'm married to a helluva gal too. Momma Gozt and I went to high school together - met in 9th grade - and were best friends then. Somehow, our wires got crossed and we never went out with one another, but we both secretly wanted to do so. Well, after my having 2 failed marriages and her having a bad marriage and a nasty relationship... AND 13 years later.... we met again and were dating and then living together almost immediately. We will celebrate our 3rd anniversary in August. Without her, I wouldn't be into this mess as deep as I am now! I can either blame her, or thank her. Personally, I thank her every day.
very cool skip. the mrs and i like most dont always see eye to eye. but it rarely has anything to do with the hobby. she is actually a member of the club (as are the other wives that want to) and with me worken nights she makes it to more meetings and events whit the kids than i do
I am one of the lucky ones too. We have been married 9 years, she met me when I had nothing, and without her ,no matter how much money I would make,I would still be broke and living in my car. I am what I am because of her, and my passion for old cars has grown so much because of her. The right partner makes all the difference.
The Surgeon General has determined that hot rods and customs are good for your family's health! Nice tribute Royal Shifter. A Wife who's on the same page is both rare and invaluable.
I couldn't agree more...with all of the above that is....my way better half of 15 yrs "Lety" is the only one that'll put up with my shit.....hell she wanted to re new our vows...I said no way ...and take the chance that you'll say no.....
I know exactly how you feel,RS! I met my wife on a blind date with the girl that was 6 years younger than me. She worked as the Kamakazi girl at a resturant/bar and kept giving me the "hairy eyeball". So I ditched the youngin and went over and said "HI!". We've been together 22 years now...She really isn't into the car scene, but knows how much it means to me. Even though I KNOW she will say no, I always invite her to everything I go to...even the "chick" stuff, LOL!!! On a funny note...she can tell a Duece from a Model A now! and a Merc too!!!
Thank you all for sharing your stories and compliments. Royal and I are a team; we work together and compliment each other. And then, sometimes He just surprises the hell out of me I love my life and wouldnt trade it for anything. (well, maybe one of the kids, for some cool metal-flake carpet for my 40) LOL Mark always tells me You got it made He couldnt be more right. I have the Greatest man in the world, 2 wonderful kids, 2 of the cutest grandkids and a beautiful home. We have met so many wonderful people, through the HAMB and this hobby that have taken us to places we would have never imagined. Thank you again Please make sure your partners read this thread and the wonderful things you have said about them. Congratulations to Ryan and Marcie and the newest HAMB hot rodder.
I hadta cover the complooter w/ plastic 2 keep from shortin' it out w/ my tears . oh, why does my life hafta suck sooooooooo bad !!
Great story Mark. I've been married to my wife almost 16 years, and together almost 19 years. Not bad for a 38 and 36 year olds huh? She is my best friend. She loves this car obsession. She gave me 2 beautiful kids. And if you talk to anyone who knows me, they'll tell you she does more work on my cars than I do!! Hell, she chemically stripped a entire 53 Suburban by herself. And that's just one of the dozens of cool things she's done for me over the years. I couldn't even imagine my life without her. I'm one of the lucky one's too.
Here I am looking for love at car shows, when I should really be hanging out at K-Mart! Thanks for sharing your story with us. And kudos to all the commenters who are just as lucky, and know it! It warms the heart to see so many well-paired folks.
Married my wife 33 years ago, Doing so was THE smartest thing I ever did in my life. I was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2005, she immediately took control of everything, sifted through the Oncologist, Clinics, Surgeons, until she found what SHE wanted, takes me to chemo, Dr. appointments and still maintaines her full time job so we can eat and finish putting our 2 girls through collage. She's not much into cars......Well she's almost perfect. And I am fortunate and Blessed to have Patti as my wife. As for the Royalshifters, spent a great afternoon with them and getting a tour of the museum...talk about stepping back in time, I though, this is the house I grew up in, I was expecting Wally or the Beaver to walk in any minute...And the hot rod passion, well they got it x1,000,000 and knowledge of hot rod history, and the cars OMG! Real, true to life hot rodders, and very nice People. Thanks Kelly and Mark, OLY The cancer car lives Give to cancer research
It was an honor meeting you Oly. Thank you to all the rest.....this ride of life just gets better everyday.
My wife bought me my first hot rod, 1930 model a 2dr sedan. 42 years and 5 kids later we are still doin the hodrod thing together. What a blessed life, it just don't get mo better.
Great story Mark, and congratulations on having a terrific wife and partner. It can make all the difference in the world in your happiness.. and hers. I got lucky also, my wife and I will be married 30 years next month. She comes from a family of car nuts, and it has made it very easy to get into and to stay in the hobby for as long as we have. We both still love it after all of these years.
My best friend and wife are the same wonderfull person that has supported my addiction for twenty nine years now, what a woman! just could not see it any other way would not change a thing. I love you honey!!! Rags
Nice story, Mark. You're one of the lucky ones, as am I. My wife & I have been married a little over 42 years and we're having more fun every year. She was a car nut when I met her and remains one to this day. We also started from nothing and have done pretty well though the years. You gotta love a woman that rides 4k miles in a rumble seat coupe for two weeks with just a small suitcase and a trunk full of parts and, when we got back, said "Let's do it again next year." I'm looking forward to another 42 years with her !
A very nice story Mark and I am really happy for the two of you. I made the discovery of a lifetime 39 years ago-just celebrated our 35th anniversary which, as my mother in law says, is a "pretty good start". It's so much better to share you life with someone who returns your love. Best of luckto all of us.
