Good evening gents, Curious about the possibilty of running just baffles in my limefire headers. Never heard or seen them before. Any hamb'rs running them? How loud/quiet are they? Just finishing up the ch***is right now so i have no existing exhaust. What options are out there for baffles? I see a kit over at lakeheaders.com.....http://www.lakeheaders.com/BAFFLES.html Thanks again!
The Hamb police are going to get you and tell you to do a search. But anyways I'm running the you-weld lakes headers kit from speed way with baffles in them. I run them like a gl*** pack, with fibergl*** filling. They have a nice mellow tone when idling but does get a little loud when you give it some gas. Not sure what the noise regulations are in your area, but mine do draw some attention when I leave from a standstill .
Thanks Master. I'de rather have the real cops on my case instead of the Hamb police I did search but I wasn't using the correct terms. Thanks for your info, I'll go try again.
I was cruising with my buddies. One of them had lake hearders with baffles. When he pulled up along side, I had to back off or speed up. You couldn't hear your self think. My '49 had lake pipes with baffles. A 35 mile drive cured me of the noise. I put a full exhaust under her and now it sounds mellow. At my age, I worry about losing my hearing......LOL
Ya, after reading the "hey lake header owners" thead I'm wondering about f-ing up my new sanderson limefires through heat retention. Also if 400 horse might be a tad loud no matter how much deadener I shove up the pipe?
That depends on your ears and tolerance level. I run mine with as much will fit in, my home town is a retirement community so I try not to ruffle too many feathers. The other thing that makes a huge difference is which way your cones are facing. If they point down they will be a tad bit louder. Mine point out, witch I think helps a bit, like I said its a matter of the local laws and your ears.
I built mine out of a piece of 2" pipe, drilled a bunch of holes in in it and welded it to the flat cap. Then I drilled a bunch of holes in the flat cap and put some turn outs on it. It may have quited it down. A bit at idle but mostly at highway speeds
You know cops.... even if its reasonably quiet they might say "where the hell is the rest of your exhaust system", not to mention your fenders
no55mad has the right lead. Here is the web page-http://www.carchemistry.com/shop/index.php?l=product_list&c=8 You can do differant things to calm the noise. Extra baffles/fibergl*** packing. You can also use turndowns to direct the noise to the ground. Matt at Lakeheaders.com will also weld up a set so they slid right in the end of the headers if you want to go the easy route. He uses Car Chemistry and will tell you so. I used the baffles on a couple cars and never had any problems with the cops.
