I just bought a really cool set of lake pipes from a fellow hamber (thanks). Could you fine, upstanding , Pillars of the community post a few photos of lake pipes? I plan to install them on a 35 Ford Truck but am not clear on how I want them to look, length and position. Any help would be great. Jim
Man, unless you're going to make it a taildragger (and even maybe not then) do NOT put lakers on it - lake PLUGS are good - cuz they're race car stuff. There are not too many pre39 vehicles (least of all TRUCKS) that look right with kickstands.... sorry - just my (not so ) humble opinion dj
When I put the lake pipes on my 35 Ford pickup, I mounted them close to the frame....UNDER the running boards. I wanted to USE them but keep them out of sight...because I have dashboard operated exhaust cutouts. Loud straight thru exhaust but trying to be discrete with appearance
These are not lake pipes but even with these I have to be carefull going over speed bumps and curbing. Just as the front tires come off the bump the collectors are there to hit.
I built the lake pipes for my dad's 36 at the factory I used to work at. We built Universal weight machines and I was the leadman in the chrome plating department. I could use any machinery in the place that I wanted to use. The one thing I did differently on the pipes was to make the front bend more gradual. The front fenders were reshaped and their height shortened after the running boards were eliminated. The front bend of the lake pipes followed the shape of the inside back edge of the front fender.
